Attitudes towards social media and being online are shifting, especially amongst Gen Z. Online movements such as anti-brainrot and going analogue have caused a push back on being online all the time.

Interaction and engagement have now become more intentional rather than habitual. If Gen Z is choosing a more analogue lifestyle, but still interacting with your post or brand online, it’s a very good sign that you’re actually offering something worthwhile.

Your content now needs to feel worth the attention.

After surveying their audience of “cultural pioneers”, insights included:

📊 73% agree ‘what’s in my bathroom cabinet tells a story about who I am’
📊 71% say groceries are a new form of lifestyle expression or cultural capital
📊 63% prefer an unusual, unexpected, or unconventional scent from a niche fragrance brand
📊 63% agree ‘knowing a lot about natural wine or niche cocktails feels like a form of cultural capital’

When fashion and conventional luxury goods became oversaturated and inaccessibly overpriced, consumers imply took what they’d learnt about cultural signalling and migrated this behaviour into other categories. That same idea of cultural credibility is now found and purchased in small, everyday products like groceries.
