From childhood dreams of African wildlife to award-winning photography displayed at Number 10 Downing Street, Bishop Auckland photographer Peter Haygarth is bringing the beauty and raw power of Wild Africa to Darlington this June.

Peter’s stunning images, captured across Kenya, Rwanda, Botswana and South Africa, have been published around the world and showcased by the Natural History Museum in London and Paris.

Now visitors can experience the breathtaking exhibition for themselves at Gallerina from June 13.

This remarkable story explores how the Derwent Iron Company emerged from that legacy and transformed the Derwent Valley during the Victorian era — turning open moorland into furnaces, railways and industry in less than a decade.

Consett resident George Stafford is celebrating his 100th birthday by taking on a sponsored walk for St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Former pupils, local schools, friends and family are all getting behind the much-loved local man ahead of the walk on 3 June.
