I’ve always had my reservations about these two, but I think it’s time to say this openly.
I’ve never been a fan of Wike — his bullish and autocratic style put me off long ago. Even if he is “our own,” I refuse to join those who promote bad leadership and refuse to hold leaders accountable.
But Fubara, in my view, is even more sinister. No matter how he tries to package himself, he was part of the same system — deeply involved — and cannot pretend to be innocent today. What he’s facing now feels like karma, and he shouldn’t drag the people of Rivers State into it.
Between the two, if I had to choose, I’d still pick Wike — at least he is bold and decisive. Fubara, to me, is quiet on the surface but dangerous underneath: timid, easily influenced, and capable of things you never expect.
Life has taught me to beware of such people — the backstabbers, gossipers, and pretenders, even those hiding under religion. I will always call them out.
Still, Wike himself should never have risen so far in a political system that truly valued character. If it were the days when people like sergeant Awuse was denied party tickets because of his bullish behaviour, Wike should never have gotten to where he is today. My message to our youths: stand firm, don’t sell your future for short-term gain, and lead by example.
Happy New Year.
