Overwhelm is a real thing - and it can cause you to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back if you don’t learn to manage it. And I know - because overwhelm has threatened to envelope me in its poisonous mist on several occasions, curling insidiously around me until I can no longer think straight. If I think too much about my ever growing to-do list I sometimes feel that little seed of panic festering in my stomach, waiting to grow like a poisoned ivy and consume every part of me.
But what I’ve learned is that every entrepreneur needs an active list and you should never clear it completely. As you tick one item off, add a new one at the bottom - because if you have nothing on your list, your business, your job or your life is not growing and developing.
So now I enjoy the fulfilment of crossing off a job done well but I also feel excited when I add a new task. It means I’m moving forward and my business isn’t stagnant.
And ok, I’m only human - if the list is too long it can be daunting still and I have to work hard to squash that little seed of overwhelm from developing. How do I do that? By focusing on one task at a time and not letting myself be distracted. It’s one of the most important skills to learn.
