Happy Derbyshire Day, Ducks! 🐏

We’re proud to be based right in Derby City Centre, working with some brilliant clients across the county who are doing great things in construction, food, heritage and more.

Fun fact: Derbyshire is one of only three counties in the UK allowed to make Stilton cheese - so yes, we take our cheese seriously around here!

Here’s to the people, places and projects that make Derbyshire what it is.

You'd think the sign would be enough to tempt coffee lovers in for a cappuccino.

Sure – if they walk past and see it.

But what of the thousands of people who flock to the City of Derby every day, without ever walking past?

That was the conundrum facing our client, Cathedral Quarter Hotel, which has invested in Starbucks as part of its refurbished coffee lounge.

The beans were roasted and the milk was frothed – but the tables were empty.

That is, until we put out the word to our media contacts. As the coverage began to roll in, so too did the customers, attracted by the combination of world-class coffee and the hotel’s plush setting.

And many of them said, “We didn’t know you were doing this until we read about it.”

They say a picture paints a thousand words. But in this case, words are better than a thousand signs.

Salud!

Last week's team social started with a drink at The Lamp House, then headed to Lorentes for tapas, some concerningly realistic mocktails and a deep dive into way too much horror film knowledge.

With stunning views over Darley Abbey and the river, the team was full of laughter - and way too much food. But when everything’s that good, you order like you’ve never eaten before. No regrets.

Sneak peeks, street eats, and serious ceiling envy...

Rory, Tom and Simon W stepped inside Derby’s iconic Market Hall today for an exclusive first look, courtesy of Marketing Derby’s latest Bondholder event.

And what a transformation!

From the striking glass roof to the buzz of new traders setting up shop, the space is bursting with potential – and plenty of flavour. (Yes, we sampled. Yes, we’d go back for seconds.)

A brilliant way to welcome a historic space into its next chapter. Thanks to Marketing Derby for letting us in on the action before the grand opening tomorrow!

Good things always arrive in pairs, apart of course from buses, but let's not get side-tracked...

Meet Alice Blackwell our new Account Executive, who joins us having completed her apprenticeship and gained a diploma in PR and communications from the PRCA.

And congratulations to Rory Hay, as after 18 months with us - time flies - he now steps up as a Digital Marketing Executive having completed his Digital Marketing apprenticeship, supported by our friends at althaus.

So, the two apprentices become full-time employees. All part of the development of the team here at NM, and we will no doubt delight in their growth and success with us.

And of course if you want to talk to them about your PR, communications or digital marketing, just let us know.

Yesterday, our Senior Consultant Wendy went along with Rory to talk to the students of the Journalism Master's course at the University of Derby.

Throughout the session, Wendy passed on the extensive knowledge that she has gained throughout her thirty-five-year career - specifically focusing on the importance of quality pitching in journalism. With his 18 months of experience as an apprentice, we didn't get Rory to pitch, but it was a perfect opportunity for him to listen and learn, as well as showcase the different routes into our industry.

These are clearly changing times for us all and at Nielsen McAllister we welcome the opportunity to share real-world expertise with the journalists, content creators and PR experts of tomorrow. Thank you to the team for allowing us to give our views on quality content, focused pitches and the need for excellent relationship building. For us, these will always be key to journalism success.

Office snacks are an integral part of any day at work. In addition to our constantly refilled sweet jar, the NM office sees all kinds of cakes, chocolates, and biscuits.

Now we'll pose the question - what is the best workday snack?

It has been a busy, exciting start to 2025 at Nielsen McAllister.

On Wednesday, Simon, Rory and Rhiannon made their way down to Basingstoke to visit Prism eLogistics for a knowledge transfer meeting to help make their digital marketing efforts UNMATCHED. It was a great opportunity to see inside the world of shrink sleeving, fulfilment and contract packing, meet the people behind their operations and even have a tour of the factory.

On Thursday, Simon Kinnear, Rory and Thomas visited Thorworld Industries for a quarterly catch-up and planning for the year ahead. It's always a worthwhile trip as it helps us to keep up to speed with business developments and deepen our knowledge about what they do.

Meeting clients at their sites plays an important part in building the best possible results from our PR & communications programmes. It's a valuable opportunity to find out more about them and develop ideas for potential stories and digital campaigns - and of course, it's essential to building our working relationship.

Overall, the start of 2025 has been UNMATCHED and has taught us, once again, that PR is more than just a press release.
