A year ago I was cold-calling tradesmen from my car.

No office. No team. A laptop and a list of 200 numbers.

Most people hung up. One didn't. He ran a painting firm and was drowning in missed enquiries losing maybe 8 leads a week because nobody answered the phone.

We set up one simple automation: every missed call got an instant text back. Within a month he booked 11 jobs he'd have lost.

That was the day I stopped selling "marketing" and started selling time back to business owners.

I still run every system I build through one question: does this give the owner an hour of their life back?

If it doesn't, I don't ship it.

I used to hate the word "sales."

When I started my agency I told myself I was a marketer, not a salesperson. I'd build great campaigns and let the work speak for itself.

It nearly killed my business.

Because the truth I avoided for too long is this every part of running a business is selling. Even when it doesn't feel like it.

Every ROI call is a sale. You're either retaining a client or losing them.

Every LinkedIn post is a sale. You're either earning trust or wasting it.

Every WhatsApp reply is a sale. You're either making someone feel looked after or making them wonder why they pay you.

The day I stopped pretending and started owning the fact that I'm always selling everything changed.

I prepare differently. I show up differently. I write differently.
For trade business owners reading this same applies to you. Every quote you send is a sale. Every site visit is a sale. Every voicemail you don't return is a lost sale.

Here's how to action it this week. Pick one customer touchpoint you currently treat as admin quoting, follow-up calls, end-of-job handover. Treat it like a sales conversation instead. Prepare for it. Care about it. Watch what happens to your conversion rate.

You're already in sales. The only question is whether you're doing it well or badly.

Most home improvement businesses are wasting their best asset.
Their testimonials.

You know the ones. "Great company, very professional, would recommend." Cool. These are fine and can still work.

The testimonials that actually convert and build trust? They start with the fear. What was the homeowner worried about before they picked up the phone? The budget spiralling. The disruption to their home. Not knowing if they could trust someone they'd never worked with before.

And then they show how that fear got solved. Specifically. Not "the job was great" but "I was worried about the cost and they came in on budget" or "I thought it'd take weeks and they were done in three days."

That's the difference between a testimonial that gets scrolled past and one that makes someone think "that's exactly what I'm worried about."

If you're running ads for your home improvement business and your testimonials are just reviews, you're leaving money on the table.
The fear. The problem. The solution. That's the structure that converts.

We stopped guessing who our clients' customers were.

That one shift changed everything. Knowing exactly who you're selling to their fears, their triggers, what gets them to pick up the phone that's what turns ad spend into actual revenue.

If you want the blueprint we use to build out ideal client profiles for home improvement businesses, send me a DM.

This last few months has been game changing for my business, having more direction I can now understand my customers better and give them the best possible outcomes.

If I can suggest anything to anyone who’s starting a business it’s understand what your trying to achieve it’s easy to get caught up chasing the dream without figuring out how to get there.

Been a bit quiet on here recently… and that’s been intentional.

Behind the scenes we’ve been refining a new ads system specifically for home improvement businesses and the results have been seriously strong.

Not just more enquiries…
But better quality leads and less time wasted quoting jobs that never happen.
Because the reality is, most businesses in this space aren’t struggling with demand…

They’re struggling with:
• Enquiries that go nowhere
• Inconsistent work month to month
• Leads coming through Facebook, WhatsApp and calls with no real system

That’s where things start to break.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be sharing exactly what we’re seeing behind the scenes and the mistakes that are costing businesses time, money and jobs.

If you run a home improvement business, this will be worth paying attention to.
