It was a privilege to facilitate a visual identity workshop for the new NHS Scottish Cancer Collaborative (NSCC) yesterday.

Fifty participants including cancer survivors, carers, clinicians and representatives from 3rd sector charities from all over Scotland gathered at V&A Dundee for a full day of workshops and thoughtful discussion.

Rod Mountain kicked off the day with a fantastic icebreaker exploring what collaboration means. We then went on to discuss the benefits and challenges of collaboration and to look at how the new organisation will be seen through the eyes of those who engage with it.

After a delicious lunch from the V&A team we set about exploring visual metaphors for collaboration drawing on the morning’s discussion to inform the design of the new visual identity.

Tapestry designer Andrew Crummy and some of the stitching team from the Cancer Tapestry were on hand to provide inspiration adding a beautiful and touching element to the day.

After weeks of planning with Kim Gardiner, MBA CMgr FCMI and the NSCC team, the day came together well with everyone participating in a meaningful way.

We’re now collating the responses and will begin drawing together all the elements to develop the new visual identity.

We’re proud to support Social Juice, a Perthshire social enterprise that transforms local apples and pears into artisanal cider and perry. This in turn funds new community orchards, provides meaningful volunteer opportunities and is preserving Scotland’s fruit-growing heritage.

From exploring the ancient orchards of the Carse of Gowrie, to creating distinctive label designs inspired by Dutch master painters, this project was a true celebration of local craft, sustainability, and creativity, and a real favourite of our team!

Malting House Field Trip! 🖨✨

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting two talented graphic design students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee for work placements with us!

As part of their experience, we took Charlotte and Olivia to visit Winter & Simpson Print, where sales executive Jim Brown gave them a behind the scenes tour.

A big thanks to Jim and all his colleagues for making us feel so welcome and for sharing their knowledge, expertise and insight into the fascinating processes that bring our print designs to life.

And since we also love a bit of hand-painted lettering, we couldn't help but snap a photo of the original Winter’s city centre shop sign.

We were delighted this week to review printer’s proofs for a project we have donated many hours of our time to over the past year.

Author Roger Illsley's book, ‘Wrighting Wrongs - The Story of a Dundee Dynasty’, is due for publication mid-September.

This beautifully crafted and illustrated commemorative heirloom volume celebrates the remarkable life of Frances Wright, perhaps one of the most controversial women of her time.

The story resonated with our Creative Director, Wendy, who has poured her time into supporting the project, working closely with Roger to see his vision come to life.

Written, designed and printed in Dundee, all profits raised through sales will be donated to Dundee charities, thanks to the generous donations of local sponsors, which have covered production costs.

Hot off the press ‼️

Aligning with our community values, we donated our time to design these fab 24 page handbooks for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) this summer.

Rotary clubs across the North East of Scotland sponsor around 90 young people each year to attend the week-long fully-funded outdoor activity camps in the Scottish Highlands where they participate in challenges to develop their team building and leadership skills.

The Malting House manages the RYLA website (www.ryla1010.com) as well as producing the handbooks for the candidates each year.

Our creative director, Wendy, was a mentor on the courses between 2016 and 2024.

And having attended RYLA herself as a 16 year-old, Wendy knows firsthand the positive impact that the experience can have on the lives of the young people. In the second photo you will see a younger Wendy, enjoying the activities!
