Saying it with roses
Dappled Deer's new cover design shows Christmas roses (hellebores from our garden) on a background of funky holly leaves. We do this design as a Christmas card, too. It's Spring, and that means daffodils ...

“Can you design us a poster for a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria?” asked one of our clients, A Heart for Duns. “It’s a piece of Christian Baroque music – basically a long, joyful hymn in 12 movements, starting with Gloria in Excelsis Deo and ending with Cum Sancto Spiritu.”

“No problem,” we said, wondering how to express all this on a sheet of A4. Should we go Modern with craftily Photoshopped angels or Ancient with a obviously stolen headshot of the Virgin Mary by an Italian Master?

Anxious to avoid issues of copyright as well as bad taste, we went for a walk – and what a sunset we saw! Rolling clouds of purest gold traversing a sky of china blue. And that, at one snap of the camera, a quick crop, bit of colour saturation and some Baroque-ish typography, was our poster. Nature in all its beauty reflecting the glory of God.
