Last year I saw hundreds, maybe thousands of brands displaying flags in support of LGBTQ+. 🏳️‍🌈 I was compelled to find out whether members of the LGBTQ+ community actually feel supported by this or whether businesses are alienating their audience by "jumping on the bandwagon".

So I asked people I know - and most people gave similar answers.

The general sentiment was that simply displaying a flag is pretty meaningless and can be seen as an overt attempt to appear "inclusive" or "supportive" because it's good for the brand image. 📈

The people I spoke to were keen to see brands that claimed to be supportive demonstrate their support with action (beyond posting a flag on social media).

Examples included: Businesses showing how their recruitment policy helps the community; donating a percentage of profits to LGBTQ+ charities throughout Pride month; hosting inclusion workshops.

The Telegraph labels the John Lewis home insurance ad 'everything that’s wrong with modern Britain'. And the good folks on Twitter sure are getting fired up. 🔥 ✊

The ad features a little boy running riot in the house in lipstick and a dress. He covers himself in paint and jumps on the furniture (pretty impressively).

Like little kids do.

Bonus points for the Stevie Nicks soundtrack. 🎵
