We were pleased to participate and exhibit our creative communication services at the first symposium organised by the Hampshire Chamber Of Commerce at Solent University's Spark Building in Southampton yesterday.

The event brought together business leaders and local government representatives to explore, contribute and listen to a wide range of economic topics and discussions in pursuit of advancing Southampton’s economic development as a leading City in the South.

With various talks, breakout sessions and networking, as well as tours of the university’s hi-tech education and training facilities, the event highlighted Southampton’s capabilities as a major UK economic hub.

Thanks to the organisers and main sponsors as well as the exhibitors, it was a pleasure to speak to so many influencers. A dramatic drone video has captured the moment that the final pillars of the old Debenhams store in Southampton city centre were knocked down.

Taking advantage of the good weather last week to capture the final stages of the Debenhams demolition in Southampton. A short promotional film for our client which we're looking forward to sharing soon. It's called progress, but sad to see the old Debenhams site disappear. A nice 360 of Southampton at the end of the video.

We're using a one-shot approach from distance in time to arrive at the centre of the action using two lenses with varying zoom. Steady piloting and camera input control is the name of the game to achieve smooth cinematic framing. Also achieving some parallax 3D depth between the movement of background and foreground creates cinematic depth.

Capturing Southampton’s Changing Skyline

A client video shoot in central Southampton on Tuesday gave us the perfect chance to capture drone and ground footage of the city’s evolving skyline. Huge thanks to Forshaw Demolition Ltd for access to the secure Debenhams site.

The iconic Debenhams building is sadly making way for more apartments, sitting just east of the £132M Bargate Quarter development. With the city changing so rapidly - often out of public view - we couldn’t resist extending our flight over the Bargate to add valuable context to our client’s project.

How many landmarks can you see and identify?

One great takeaway? Southampton’s town planners are bringing history back into the spotlight. The North East city walls, previously hidden behind the failed Bargate shopping centre, are now fully visible and accessible. This stretch, leading from the Bargate to Queensway, will soon be lined with a vibrant mix of shops and alfresco restaurants.

A huge thanks to all agencies involved in our flight planning and permissions. Although outside Southampton Airport’s flight restriction zone, the site still sits within controlled airspace, requiring approval and coordination with air traffic control before and after flight.

Southampton Airport is fully UTM ready and made electronic flight plan submissions seamless, with approval granted in under three hours. Five hours of planning, plus a full site visit and flight route walk, ensured our risk assessments and VLOS sight lines were locked in for the 50 minute flight time.

Shoutout to Hampshire Police, Bargate Developers, Tellon Capital LLP and Canvas Capital House for their support. Safe drone operations depend on clear communication with all stakeholders. Yesterday morning, we made a visit to the old Debenhams site and surrounding area in Southampton ahead of our main event today - a fully authorised commercial drone flight to film aspects of the demolition for one of our clients.

After 7 years' service, we’ve retired our Phantom 4 Pro+ commercial drone and commissioned the new DJI Mavic 3 Pro.
