My brother Enoch is one of the main reasons I chose to move to Scotland. At the time, he was going through the process of becoming a Chartered Accountant.

He called me yesterday with fear in his voice.

He had just driven through Falkirk town centre with his wife and children when he saw large crowds and a heavy police presence. For the first time here, he felt real fear for his wife and children, and fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When he called me to stay indoors and after seeing what's happening in Belfast, it really hit me that I could have lost my brother, my nephew, niece and my sister-in-law just by him being in that place at that time. No one should feel that way here in Scotland.

I’ve always known Scotland as welcoming and safe, and I still believe that. But hearing that fear in Enoch's voice was a reminder that not everyone is feeling that today.

Please check on your loved ones and stay safe out there.

For over two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Board Member for .org.uk, Scotland’s national walking and wheeling charity. Today, I joined the team for their away day and was reminded just how impactful their work truly is👏.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed first-hand the dedication, passion, and commitment that goes into making walking and wheeling accessible for everyone. From promoting the physical, mental, and social benefits of being active, to connecting communities, inspiring positive behaviour change, improving local places and spaces, and advocating for greater inclusivity, the impact is far-reaching🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role has been hearing the countless stories of lives transformed through the programmes created by the team at Walking Scotland. Stories of improved wellbeing, stronger communities, and people gaining the confidence and opportunity to get outdoors and move more.

I couldn’t be prouder to play a small part in an charity that is working tirelessly to remove barriers and ensure everyone in Scotland has the opportunity to walk or wheel wherever they go💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

The work being done is genuinely changing lives. As someone who is passionate about reducing barriers and helping more people connect with the outdoors, it’s incredibly reassuring to know that the future of walking and wheeling in Scotland is in such capable hands.💙

I thought I knew Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

First it was Edinburgh and Glasgow. Then the Highlands opened up a whole new world.

Years later, I thought I’d seen enough of this country to know what to expect.

Then I explored the Outer Hebrides by boat with

And honestly, I wasn’t prepared for it.

The remoteness. The beaches. The islands scattered across the horizon. The feeling of being somewhere truly wild.

Just when I think Scotland can’t surprise me anymore, it does. And sleeping in Hirta reminded me of how much of this beautiful country I still need to explore.

If anything, this is your sign to explore Scotland off the beaten track.
