When used thoughtfully, print isn’t “old school”. It’s timeless.

Here’s why.

The experience of flipping through pages and immersing yourself in the stories within can’t always be replicated in digital content alone. There’s something about holding a piece of content in your hands that creates a powerful sense of connection.

Print is tangible, which makes it trusted – and memorable.

Happily, the team at TotalEnergies UK were on the same page. (We never were ones to waste a perfectly good pun).

When the company came to us in 2019 with a vision of its internal company magazine, TotalEnergies UK wanted a publication that would share company news and updates in a fun and engaging way, while also motivating and uniting the staff through a shared sense of purpose.

Now, almost seven years on, we continue to receive consistently positive feedback from teams across the business who love the opportunity to read about the people behind the projects, celebrate shared achievements and stay connected to what’s happening across the organisation.

Projects like these really cement all the reasons for why we do what we do – to help companies amplify their brand story in a creative, impactful way that connects with its audience.

Head of Design here at White Light Media, Matt McArthur brings two decades of experience – as well as two PPA Scotland Designer of the Year awards – to everything he touches.

He’s the one turning ideas into visual stories, using his lightsaber-sharp creative instincts to turn the complex into the intuitive, the ordinary into the epic. From dazzling digital to page-perfect print, Matt is the reason our work looks absolutely stellar.

Fun fact about Matt: He's a digital whizz with an analogue heart - when he’s not bringing balance to the creative universe, he's in his shed with some plywood and an obscure musical mashup on the turntable.

Do you ever work on a project that keeps coming up in conversation? One you’re particularly proud of, that really encapsulates why it is you do what you do?

For us, one of those projects is the official magazine we created for Aberdeen’s Tall Ships Races last summer. As an agency deeply passionate about creating content that truly connects, we knew from the get-go that we’d be putting people front and centre of the magazine.

We set out to tell the stories of the people, the city, and its rich maritime heritage – from shipbuilders and sail trainees to local voices sharing their love for Aberdeen.

The official magazine became a keepsake and guide, blending human stories, city culture, and practical tips for visitors. Bold design and accessible editorial bring the city to life, while celebrating the pride and passion of everyone involved.

Working hand in hand with organisers, volunteers, and contributors, this project shows what we do best at White Light Media: turning stories into content that connects, inspires, informs and celebrates Tall Ships, and the city it was hosted in.

While we’re glad to report our Creative Director Eric doesn’t share many physical similarities with the fictional jedi master - unless you get him on a very bad day - he is definitely our Yoda here at White Light.

A PPA and PPA Scotland Design Award winner, Eric is our agency’s creative heartbeat. A designer by trade but much more than that by nature – leader, mentor and full-time ideas man.

The calm in the creative storm, the bridge between design and strategy and the steady hand on the wheel, Eric makes sure we tell your brand story in the way you want it to be told.
