Do you ever feel like it’s impossible to stand out in a crowded market?

Here’s the thing: the largest group in any sector is made up of people who don’t have a clear USP or value proposition. Just by having one, you’re already ahead – it’s not like all the options are taken.

And a USP can be anything: your approach or process, your style, your values, your audience, your pricing, even your personality or sense of humour. It could be being “the one with the podcast” or “the one who runs those great events.” Anything that makes you memorable (and is relevant to your ideal clients) counts.

Most small businesses and solo traders don’t focus their marketing on their ideal clients. That’s why so many of them sound the same – they describe what they do, rather than the problems they solve for the people they actually want to work with.

Being clear on your USP and the clients you serve is how you go from blending in to standing out.

Ever felt like you’re shouting into the void?

Chances are, it’s not that your marketing isn’t working – it’s that you haven’t factored in the numbers.

Marketing is about reaching the right people often enough to generate new business consistently. Not all of your potential clients are ready to buy right now. People are at different stages in their customer journey.

If you want to make your marketing predictable, you need to know two things: your conversion rate, and the average time it takes for someone to go from first sign-up to paying client.

Once you have that, you can plan your marketing with confidence instead of just hoping for the right person to show up at the right time.
