You don’t have to be Scottish, to be a Scottish Marketer 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In fact, you might not even identify as a marketer…

For us, “marketing” is the entire process of “taking a product to market” or “making your business known”.

In other places, it’s well understood that there are so many components that go into doing that successfully.

In big companies, people may wear one of many hats.

In small companies, someone may wear all the hats!

But one things for sure: unless you’re aware of all the options open to you, you’re unlikely to be able to prioritise the actions which will have the biggest impact, in an appropriate period of time.

There’s so much information (and misinformation) about all this and that’s why is open to all!

Any business leader who wants a better understanding of the entire practice of marketing.

And any practioner who wants to be better at their own craft and better understand their context in the wider marketing mix.

If we’re to achieve our mission of raising awareness of the role and value of marketing and building better careers, companies, communities and improve the Scottish economy as a result; then this is fundamental.

This is marketing for the many, not only the few 🙌

Marketing never sleeps 🛏️

Just as Scotland’s climate is cooling down for winter, our 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 community is heating up!

The team has made a slew of announcements in the last few weeks, propelling our mission forward.

 of joins us as the leader of our Moray Hub and already has her first Marketing Meetup in the works.

We’re incredibly grateful that Lucy Morrison has agreed to the beautiful (pictured) being our first regional venue.

We’re actually hosting two meetups in the North, in the next few weeks: our Highland Hub in Inverness on October 28 and Moray Hub on November 7.

We’ll soon be launching a brand new website which will be the home of our member profiles, allowing us to celebrate the best Scottish Marketers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and the leading marketing work happening in our areas.

We’re delighted to share that Ailsa Stinson of has stepped up to lead our Scottish Marketers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Moray Hub!

Our first meetup in the region will be in November, with full details to be shared shortly.

Adam () started the Marketing Meetups in Aberdeen back in 2019 and after a COVID break and personal relocation, rebooted the initiative in the Highlands earlier this year.

Commenting on the news, Adam said: “I am beyond excited that we’ll end the year having grown our community across the Northern territories, with further announcements in the pipeline.”

Ailsa also joins the steering group for Scottish Marketers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and we’re delighted to continue championing our cause and building the future of the network together.

It’s confirmed 🥳 the next meetup of our Highland Hub will be in Inverness on Monday, 28 October 🗓️

We’ve listened to incredible feedback from our members - thanks to each and every one of you - and so we’ll be trying something a little different, this month.

In addition to a general networking opportunity, October’s topic is “Brand building.”

I’m delighted to say that Ed Lopez, CBO from Inverness creative agency, .agency will be leading the conversation as we look at: “Brand Building: Key Principles for Highland Businesses”.

After Ed’s presentation, we’ll breakout into small groups to discuss the topic as it pertains to your businesses and brands.

You’ll then be invited to share your learnings with the room.

Hopefully, this will allow everyone to leave with practical, actionable, marketing advice to take away and implement in their own work.

There’s an interesting trend emerging from our meetups and conversations in our online home.

While we have amazing talent, scaling world-renowned brands, we’re not always so good at marketing…ourselves.

That is, those who work in the profession can often struggle to promote their roles and the value of the work they do.

We see that both internally, within organisations and also in the wider business community: that marketing is often misunderstood and frequently, therefore, under-valued.

One of the core missions of Scottish Marketers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is Making Marketing Mean More.

We’ll do that by educating Scottish businesses about the commercial impact of our work in the short, medium and long term.

It doesn’t matter if they’re already selling internationally, nationally or locally - everyone can benefit from marketing that matters.

Crucially, this also means that we’ll focus on those businesses who are doing some “good” - those who support the communities they inhabit and manage to balance their triple bottom line: people, planet and profit.

So if you’re a marketer, or the person in your organisation who wears the marketing hat; or if you’re simply interested in the industry and the work we do; come and say hello at a meetup near you or join us on to chat in a safe space about all things marketing.

What’s your biggest challenge, as a Scottish Marketer? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤔

Recently, we’ve heard it’s everything from tracking and attributing the impact of campaigns; through to the isolation that can come from being a one or few person team.

We firmly believe that us marketers are better together and collectively, can have a more positive impact on our companies and communities than any one of us can alone.

Thankfully…a few marketers up in Inverness recently agreed!

We’re looking forward to future meet-ups with our Highland Hub and…to taking this show on the road 🚀
