𝟱 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗦𝗡’𝗧 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝗶𝘁!)
Over the last 13 years I’ve spent literally millions of pounds on advertising, and worked with thousands of business owners on their marketing.
And in that time, I’ve concluded there are 5 main reasons why most businesses struggle with their marketing:
𝟭. 𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘
The first thing you need, in order to effectively market your products and services is an audience who want what you’ve got, and are willing to pay for it!
You then simply need to construct a message that resonates with them, and get it in front of them.
Sounds simple, right?
But it’s not always easy.
I see a lot of businesses struggle with getting their messaging right, which in turn makes it difficult to attract the quality and/or quantity of audience required to make their marketing work.
𝟮. 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦
The second reason most marketing doesn’t work is - even if you’ve built an audience - you then need to be able to turn that audience into leads/enquiries/opportunities.
In other words, you need a way for people to put their hand up and saying “yes I’m interested, please send me more info”
Then, you know who your most likely clients/customers are, so you can focus your time, energy, and resources on serving and connecting with them, making it more likely that they’ll purchase from you.
𝟯. 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬
This is a biggy.
The amount of times I’ve heard a client say “I’ve tried (Facebook ads, email marketing, posting on LinkedIn, etc) but it didn’t work for me” is scary.
The fact is, it’s extremely unlikely that any marketing activity is going to work first time.
You post on Instagram and get no engagement.
You send a bunch of emails and no one replies.
It’s highly likely that whatever you do will fail initially.

But I’m here to tell you that almost every marketing success story started the same.
What separates the winners from the losers is consistency.
𝟰. 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗦
In my experience, most businesses are making their marketing campaigns far more complicated that they need to be.
They’re trying to do a thousand different things at once, when the truth is, just one campaign done well, and optimised over time, could easily be worth £1m+ to your business.
80% of our marketing activity is essentially just 3 campaigns which we adjust and adapt for each promotion.
These campaigns very rarely overlap.
My advice?
Focus on one campaign at a time.
𝟱. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗥
The final reason your marketing may not be working as well as you’d like is simply that your offer isn’t strong enough.
If you’re constantly hearing “I need to think about it” or “not right now” from your potential clients - that’s a strong indication that your offer lacks value and/or urgency.
In other words, you haven’t done a sufficient job of communicating the value of your product/service, or given an urgent reason for your potential client/customer to act now.
