These are all things that clients have told me they've tried, before working with me. Sometimes you need more than the workbook or masterclass. You need time 1:1 with a marketing pro who has helped business owners just like you actually get their newsletter up and running.

Wondering how newsletters fit in to the rest of your marketing?

Bringing newsletters into the mix doesn’t have to be complicated and the great news is, newsletters work really had so the small burst of effort is always worth it.

First up, be clear about what you’re trying to achieve with your newsletter. Don’t just sent out a monthly note without setting goals or having a purpose. Is there a particular offer you’re promoting this month?

Next, can you use storytelling in your emails? Is there a client scenario you can retell? What problem is your offer solving, how did you help and what was the outcome for your client?

Think about what you’re doing with your other marketing channels. Repetition is GOLD in marketing, so if you can tell the same story, in multiple ways, across multiple channels, you’re on to a winner.

Set yourself up with a template. There really is nothing worse than staring at a blank newsletter page. Bring in your brand colours, elements, and images. Make it easy to jump into your newsletter platform, amend an existing template and click schedule.

Don’t forget that a weekly newsletter saying shorter snippets is often more impactful than one, longer email.

Think about how you’re purposefully directing your newsletter reader to where you want them to go. Use buttons, as well as links on text and images. Think back to the purpose of your newsletter- does this email move you forward with that objective?

And if you’re struggling to make an impact with your newsletter- I’d love to help you to get better results from your efforts. Drop me a DM to book a call.

If you're posting regular business content on Instagram, you should be sending a newsletter.

Instagram is brilliant for marketing your business, but it should be used as one part of your marketing mix. Use social media platforms to grow your email list - an asset that you actually own (unlike your rented IG account 👀).

And getting started with email newsletters doesn't need to be complicated. Pick an email platform (most will have free starter options), build a sign up form and then tell your audience that you have an email, whats brilliant about it and why they should sign up.

Yes you can bring in automations, and use lead magnets to attract the right people to your email community, but honestly, just get started.

And if you're struggling to get your newsletter off the ground, I'd love to help. Drop me a DM to book in a call.

Newsletter unsubscribes are actually a good thing!

I know as business owners we are always looking for growth, and getting in front of new people (especially on socials), but your newsletter list isn't quite the same.

So much better to have a small list of people who are your superfans, than a huge list of people who never open, read or buy from your emails.

Next time you notice you've had a few unsubscribes - please take it as a positive.

If using newsletters with purpose is on your to-do list I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a DM and we can book in a call.

The top five things I jump to fix during Newsletter Reset sessions:

1. domain authentication: if your newsletter platform isn’t authenticated your emails are heading to the spam file. Yes, it’s a bit of a faff - but once it’s done, you never have to think about it again.

2. Massive images in newsletters. Jumping into an existing set up and seeing 5MB/ 10Mb images loaded makes my skin crawl. Even those ‘web sized’ images from your pro photographer are too big for email. Your beautiful newsletter will head straight for the junk pile, never to be seen again.

3. Email titled: Spring News: boring. No one will rush to open, so don’t make subject lines an afterthought.

4. Landing pages with no welcome email. Meh, at the very least send a single acknowledgment email. Thanks for joining, I’m glad to see you here. Minimum.

5. Businesses growing a community on Instagram and not building an email list. CRIMINAL. All that effort, on a platform you don’t own. Use social channels to create an asset for your business instead.

If you’d like help with any of the above, hit follow, my names Barbara, I help business owners like you, get set up for success with email newsletters.

What do you do when you feel like you're not getting results from your newsletters?

Danielle is creating brilliant content for her newsletters, curating tips, sharing blog posts, but none of her subscribers were getting to see it.

Her open rate was averaging around 20% so she knew they were likely landing in junk, but she didn't know why. So she booked a Newsletter Reset session and we fixed the problems. Two simple fixes that will see her brilliant emails land in the inbox, where they belong!

Danielle had also created a brilliant lead magnet, but it had been left collecting digital dust because she wasn't sure of how to share it automatically. So we created a campaign specific landing page, attached a welcome flow email, so anyone who joined her email community via that form, would receive an automated email with the freebie. And Danielle has already shared it and new subscribers have joined her email list - and received her top tips guide.

90 mins together to fix the issues that were holding her newsletter back, a few simple tips and an expert eye to get things moving forward.

If you too would like to get more from your newsletters, a Newsletter Reset is for you. Comment RESET and I'll share the link for all the info, or drop me a DM and we can pop in a call.

Are images killing your newsletter reach? 👀

This is something I see so often when I start working with clients on their email newsletters. Somewhere along the way we have been given the idea that bigger is better, that higher resolution gets better results, but with email newsletters this couldn't be further from the truth.

Adding too large images will flag spam filters, meaning your beautifully curated email will go straight to the junk pile, never to see the light of day.

Too many spam flags and you’ll damage your sender reputation.

So what can you do?

📧 Keep your email newsletters to less than 1mb total.

📧 Resize images using images your PC image software, Canva or a web based platform like tinyjpg.com. Small doesn't have to mean grainy!

📧 Always check the size of your newsletter with a test, before sending to all.

Simple changes like keeping your image size down, will really help your newsletter deliverability. And more opens means more people can buy from you!

If your email newsletter needs an expert eye, I'd love to help you. Drop me a DM and we can book in a chat.

Why am I SUCH a newsletter bore?

Upskilling into email marketing wasn’t always on my agenda, but when I started looking into adding newsletters to any marketing plan it just made so much sense.

Newsletters have a brilliant return on investment (time and £), and you can start building a list of superfans for free with tools like Mailchimp, MailerLite or Flodesk (the three platforms I partner with).

When a local fashion boutique lost their Instagram account, I made it my mission to help businesses using Instagram, to build an email back up (does anyone remember my Insta to email masterclass?) 👀

And I still stand by that mission, and that email + newsletters really is the dream combo.

But I know that sometimes the tech can be a bit fiddly. That starting with newsletters can be a bit daunting and that actually getting started can be THE biggest hurdle.

Which is exactly why I offer Newsletter Reset sessions. 90 minutes on zoom to get set up, build a newsletter template, craft a sign up form, welcome flow or brainstorm content ideas. An hour and a half tailored to you and your business.

A boost of marketing support, an expert eye on your set up to help you get the most out of your email newsletter.

Drop me a DM to find out if this is the right support for you, or hit the 🔗 in bio to book.
