Nobody told me it could look like this.

This week I have: dropped the kids off at school every single morning, been to a midweek gym class, had a proper lunch (sat down, not at my desk), taken Friday afternoon off, and run a six-figure business.

I'm not saying this to show off. I'm saying it because two years ago I would have read that and thought it wasn't possible for someone like me.

A client told us a few months ago she wouldn't be continuing with us. She's switching to AI.

We wished her well. Genuinely.

We're not afraid of AI even though people tell us we should be. We use it ourselves. It helps us research faster, structure ideas, and work more efficiently. Used well, it's a brilliant tool that helps us deliver even better results for our clients.

But there's a difference between using AI to support your work and using it to replace your voice entirely. And for small business owners using content creation to build trust, that difference is immediately obvious to anyone reading.

Why does every caption have a million em dashes? Why does every post start with 'It's not X, it's X'? Why does it all sound like it was written by the same person? Answer: because it was, and that person isn't a person.

The human connection you build through your content, the quirks, the opinions, the way you phrase things that's just a bit you, that's what makes people trust you enough to buy from you. AI can't replicate that. Not really. Not yet. Not in a way that doesn't feel like a copy of a copy.

We'll keep using AI where it makes sense. But as a social media and content team, we'll never let it replace the thinking, the voice, or the heart behind the work. That part stays human.

Three years ago I was a solo VA charging £15 an hour and wondering if this was really going anywhere.

I had no team. No proper systems. No idea that what I was building would eventually become something I'm genuinely proud of.

I just kept going. Refined what worked. Let go of what didn't. Built something that could run without me doing every single thing.

And somewhere along the way, it became a business- not just a job I'd created for myself amongst the responsibility of being a mum.
