Everybody tells you what to do when a post goes to s**t but what about when it goes better than expected?

I experienced this last week and honestly scared the s**t out of me, I had to content to post after it and so I spend the rest of the week wondering how f**k was I going to prove this wasn’t a fluke (despite feeling like it absolutely was)

I moved the goalposts without even noticing, and it killed my momentum

Have you ever felt pressure to keep up after a post did well? Please tell me I’m not the only one 😅

F**k, this feels like a huge vulnerable moment for me 😮‍💨

When I moved back up to my hometown I thought that it was going to be starting a new exciting chapter in the life I was living

I was building my business and yes it was tight at times but I had ambition and I had a goal I was working towards. Being able to be a stay at home mum

She was showing up and trying but she felt friction, she didn’t know where it was coming from but she kept pushing through

Then the house of cards fell down, her world fell apart overnight. Everything she had worked for up until this point was for nothing

Nothing mattered anymore, she was turning 30 this year and she was starting from scratch… she didn’t even know if she had the strength to do it

The amount of failure and shame she felt was like nothing she had felt before she gave up on everything but her animals who gave her routine and structure

She took the dog for a walk some nights so she could cry alone and isolate herself

She picked herself up and got herself a job because she needed to step up and start standing on her own two feet for the first time

She started making friends, living life and she really thought she was on the right path. Her anxiety was high but she was giving it her all

Things continued to get better, she may not have wanted to celebrate her 30th birthday but things seemed to be becoming more stable

Until it wasn’t, she lost her faith in the industry that has been there for her since she was 18

Now she was really questioning if she was actually the problem because no matter how hard she tried the sand was slipping through her fingers faster than she could grab it

Personally she was feeling better, she entered a new relationship that validated her feelings and came with patience and understanding

She discovered ice hockey and became a fan of the rage-boy aquarium 🤣

She started making memories and doing things that she would have thought about doing before instead of actually living it

After being a locum at a clinic she finally felt like she found her unicorn practice and when they asked her to join them part time she couldn’t believe her luck

She took the leap and start

To those who know me in person I’d love to know your perspective on this in the comments, or even to those who have seen me in the wild 😂

After my cry on Tuesday night I made a decision, I was fed up

Fed up of overthinking, holding myself back and trying to withhold some sort of f**ked up high standard and pressure to be a certain way online

When I started creating content it wasn’t about following a trend or being popular - I’d be lying if I said that metrics don’t affect me but all I want to do and have ever wanted to do is help people or tbh even just one person whoever they may be

So if you’re seeing this and you’re worried about what people may think of you, or like you have to wear a mask to fit in. You really truly don’t 💚

Honestly I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard at a song, but the relief I felt was just something else 👌🏼

I’ve been wanting to post something like this for a while, whilst I am always honest on here I still feel like I have been able to fully express myself until last night when I sat on the sofa with the girls with tears streaming down my face

I’ve been holding myself to a ridiculously unrealistic standard and I’ve had enough of this being the reason I hold back from posting on here

In 2018 I started this account because I wanted to help even one person stop feeling as alone and isolated in the veterinary industry as I did when I was a student (many moons ago now 🤣)

That why has never changed but somewhere along the way I stopped thinking that was enough and thought I needed to give more ‘value’ to compete with other creators in vetmed

In reality that was a crock of 💩 and it was my subconscious blocking me from doing what I love which is creating content and continuing to grow this community

So from today, I’m starting again. I’m acting as if I’m at 0 followers and giving myself grace for not being perfect and doing the thing anyway

I hope this helps you realise that you aren’t alone 💚

This week has been so amazing and I am 100% grateful for the experiences I’ve had and getting to see friends irl who I haven’t seen in too long!

Whilst I’m sharing my opinion I also appreciate that this is not everyone’s opinion and I am grateful for the position I am in to live my life the way I do 💚

But I think the times of normalising overworking and pushing ourselves to the brink is becoming less frequent and we are actually challenging this narrative is a huge step in the right direction 🙌🏼

Remember that time you were talking, and you heard yourself and realised... why am I STILL telling this story?

Like the thing ended. You moved on. You’re in a completely different place now. But your mouth is still running the old script like a broken record 🎤

And then you get annoyed at yourself. Because you’re sitting there thinking I am not this person anymore, so why am I still talking like I am?

I had this exact moment at the weekend, I caught myself in the act. Mid-sentence. Describing my life through stuff that’s already done instead of what I’m actually building right now!

And it hit me. I wasn’t holding onto it because I couldn’t let go. I was holding onto it because it was familiar. I knew how to be THAT version of me.

The new one? There’s no script for her yet. And that’s the scary s**t right there 😅

Not the past. The blank page in front of you 📗

Your past is part of your story, it’s not THE story.

You don’t need to have the next chapter figured out to stop reading the old one out loud. You just need to catch yourself doing it

That’s literally where the magic starts 🪄
