Meta's just announced something every small business running ads needs to know about.

From 1 July 2026, Meta is adding "location fees" on top of your ad spend in certain countries, to cover digital service taxes. The fee depends on where your audience sees the ad, not where your business is based.

For UK advertisers, that's an extra 2% on top of whatever you're spending. So if you're running £1,000 a month, you're now paying £1,020.

Doesn't sound like much, but it adds up, especially if you're also targeting France, Italy or Spain (3%), or Austria and Turkey (5%).

This isn't something you can opt out of. It's just a new line item in your ad costs going forward.

My advice: build it into your monthly budgeting now so it's not a surprise in July, and if you're working with an agency or freelancer, ask them how they're accounting for it in your reporting.

Small changes like this are exactly why it pays to have someone watching the platform updates for you, so you're not caught off guard.
