Falkirk Class Recap 👊

Another bank holiday scorcher outside — but a dedicated group of students chose to step away from the sunshine and air conditioning to put the work in on the mats.

Last night we focused on a variety of ground techniques, including releases from side headlocks and chokes.

A physically demanding session with plenty of problem solving, pressure and repetition throughout.

Lots of sweat, effort and learning went into the class, with students continuing to build confidence and understanding in difficult positions.

Well done to everyone who showed up and got the work done 👏

Falkirk Class Recap – Dirty Tricks 👊

Monday night was our popular “Dirty Tricks” class.

After a punishing warm-up to keep fitness levels high, the cardio intensity dropped — but the pain levels definitely increased 😅

We explored a series of small but highly effective pain points throughout the body, including techniques such as “window shading” of the cheeks and lips, clavicle pulls, and many other uncomfortable little nuggets from head to toe.

These techniques are not intended to be fight finishers. Instead, they are designed to create moments of opportunity — causing pain, distraction, shifts in balance and breaks in concentration that can give you the chance to escape, gain control, or strike back.

It was a fun and eye-opening class, with plenty of laughs along the way — as the photo clearly shows.

Great effort from everyone who came along and embraced the discomfort 👏

Falkirk Class Recap 👊

I was unfortunately under the weather on Monday, but a big thank you to Coach Connor who stepped up and took the class in my absence. Therefore no photos to go with this post.

Connor put the students through a varied and challenging session.

The class included slow fighting, strength and conditioning, and 360 defences, before moving on to guillotine chokes, air and blood chokes, and defences against the side bear hug.

To finish, the students returned to slow fighting and were encouraged to incorporate the techniques they had just learned into live scenarios.

This is one of the best ways to develop real understanding — moving beyond isolated drills and applying skills under pressure.

Great effort from everyone, and thanks again to Coach Connor for covering and delivering another excellent session 👏

Falkirk Class Recap 👊

Last night we focused on one of the fundamental principles of Krav Maga — the “burst”.

A fast, explosive forward movement designed to overwhelm and take control of a situation. We trained this in isolation first with a game using a tennis ball, to really develop the skill and understanding.

From there, we began applying it — using the burst alongside slipping punches into groin strikes, transitioning into control and restraint, and finally progressing into one of the most challenging techniques in Krav Maga… defence against an overhead stick attack.

A tough session from start to finish, pushing students both physically and mentally — but great progress made across the board.

Well done to everyone who put the work in 👏

Falkirk Class Recap 👊

Last night we focused on releases from grabs — including hair, wrist and shirt grabs — and worked through a variety of responses.

A key part of the session was understanding that the response should always be dictated by the situation. Not every scenario calls for a high level of force, and having options is what makes the training truly practical.

We discussed real examples where situations have been successfully de-escalated using simple wrist release techniques — creating space without escalating the conflict.

One of our newer students also highlighted how these skills can be applied in his role as a carer, where managing situations safely and without harm is essential. A great example of how Krav Maga can be adapted to real-life needs beyond just self-defence.

Strong session with plenty of learning and discussion throughout 👏

Falkirk Class Recap 👊

Monday night saw us continue our focus on striking, building on the work from the previous week.

This time we looked at open hand and forearm strikes — applying the same footwork and body mechanics we’ve been developing. It was great to see those fundamentals starting to click, with clear improvements across the class.

Good footwork and solid body mechanics are the cornerstone of delivering powerful, effective strikes — and that consistency is paying off.

Also great to welcome a few new faces along to the session 👏

Strong work all round.
