Suns out, camera is out! Golf club this morning for a few shots of the greens in the sunshine then a breezy visit to Settle Fire Station with the FireHose Tech team to photograph the testing truck in its new livery.

Paper, I love paper. There is something very nice about taking delivery of a freshly printed box of leaflets or brochures. Everything has been web-related recently, so it’s been great to work on something paper-oriented. This leaflet is part of the Visit Settle project, designed to be distributed further afield to bring people into town, where the rest of the brochures will then take over with more details and information about the local businesses.

Another recent launch, phase one of The Veteran Car Club. I’ve loved this project. I love the cars, I love the concept and the work we have done. Phase one is a rebuild of an old HTML site. It needed to be more user-friendly, more organised and responsive. Phase two will start shortly to create a membership section with automated subscriptions and renewals.

This week has been back to creating green smiley faces again. It’s been a while since I did any major SEO. But then three sites have all turned up at once. I love a bit of SEO, it ticks all my OCD boxes, getting little green smiles on my SEO and Readability boxes. There are a lot more elements to cover now, of course, with the GEO intervention that’s currently going on, so it means more things to tick off my list, but I’m good with that. If you want help with your SEO, whether it’s training, explaining or having the work done for you, get in touch and tell me what you need.

It seems to be that time of year when everyone is going to events, especially in hospitality. Trade shows, networking events, and ambassador days. What do you take with you?

Leaflets, postcards, business cards or just yourself? The days of handing round business cards are pretty much gone, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t leave something with prospective clients.

A pen, a pad, a nice booklet of some kind. You need to leave something memorable. Potentially, you are one of a dozen or more people that they will speak to at that event. You need to make sure they remember you afterwards.

We have lots of ideas to help you be memorable; you just need to ask.

I like working with local businesses, working with my home town is even better. Today I’ve been out and about working on a leaflet to promote Settle, its businesses and bring visitors into town.

It means I get to meet like minded individuals, local businesses and people passionate about the place they call home.

Are you telling your potential clients the right thing? When they visit your website or pick up your brochure, do they understand who you are? Are you telling them what you do? Just telling them you are an accountants doesn’t cut it anymore. So what? There are lots of accountants.

The key is to tell them about how you can help them, the problems you can solve. Let them know that you understand their pain points and their journey. That might be in the form of a blog, your social media or a monthly email newsletter. However you go about it, it’s worth taking a couple of hours a month to communicate. Keep in touch with existing clients and encourage new ones.

If you want some help, then get in touch. We can help you create a content plan, brainstorm ideas or give you some training (or if you really don’t have the time, we can do it for you).

Back in my BNI days, I used to do the A-Z of WooCreative in my 60 seconds. The days of 5.30 am starts are (thankfully) well behind me, but I thought it was time I rolled the idea out again.

I’m not talking about painting or drawing. I’m talking about producing literature, laying out brochures or setting up stationery. Postcards, menus, pricelists, flyers, presentations, and even setting up templates for you to manage yourself in Canva, it all counts. If you have a project you would like to discuss, get in touch.

My current favourite toy is an AI Photo Restoration tool. I have been working with The Snapes (A Lancashire Folk Duo) who are putting together a book about some of the influential collectors who have kept the music alive. My part in that is to retouch some of the old images and make them usable for publication. I’m pretty good at retouching images, but sometimes there is not much you can do. Too old, too degraded, not enough pixel depth.

As an experiment, I thought I would try an image AI bot. It scans and rebuilds the image. It even creates colour versions of the black and white ones. There are some very cool tools out there if you let AI help you rather than threaten you.

This week I have been mostly…
Cold.
Not just because the weather is ridiculous, but also because I decided to go and take some photos at the golf club for their new website. In theory it was a great idea. In practice, not so much. But, braving the weather, i did get my pictures, I don’t have to explain the idea for someone else to do and I could nip round the corner and do it. Got to love working local.
