£439,197 Raised, 600 Deliveries, 1,100,000 PPE Items Donated by Masks for Scotland!!! :)
Great to share uplifting news from today’s headlines that pay tribute to the achievement of Jill Belch, Professor of Vascular Medicine at the University of Dundee, who harnessed the power of volunteers to stand up for frontline staff in the fight against Covid-19.
Jill set up Masks for Scotland last April with the help of her daughter Scottish actor Joanna van der Ham and music producer Mr Hudson. It raised £439,197 and an army of volunteers including 40 drivers saw 1,100,000 PPE items donated to frontline staff. With Scottish Government help it sourced 20,000 isolation gowns from China and Angela Higgins of Resonance Capital provided transport for deliveries that were stored courtesy of Perth Airport.
Jill, Joanna and Mr Hudson enlisted the help of Edith Bowman whose epic livestream fundraiser ‘For the Love of Scotland’ raised £80k enabling the Charity to reach its £200k target. Significant donations were made by Franz Ferdinand, James McAvoy, Angela Higgins and Dame Ann Gloag who also provided support from The Gloag Foundation.
Professor Jill Belch said: “Thanks to the generosity of all donors we believe that this PPE will have helped save lives. I wish we could share all the many hundreds of thank you emails we receive and here is one:
“Thank you so much for doing this. It has made a massive difference in our GP Practice, so huge thanks to all. Really appreciated by us and our patients who themselves felt safer when they saw us protected. We cannot thank you enough.”
“Messages like these are such a huge reward for all this work.”
We thank Jill and her army of volunteers for all that they have done, and to all frontline staff for standing up every day and doing what they do. Thank you for caring.
