There’s something special about producing the official programme for an event as iconic as the The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

J Thomson Colour Printers Ltd. was delighted to once again produce this year’s programme, beautifully designed by nexus24. From the first sheet through the press to the finished publication, our team focused on delivering exceptional colour consistency, sharp detail and the high production standards this prestigious event demands.

The cover really takes centre stage. Featuring a blue metallic foil with an additional spot UV varnish, it combines striking visual impact with a wonderfully tactile finish. Achieving precise registration across multiple finishing processes takes real technical expertise and attention to detail — ensuring every element lands exactly where it should.

It’s a great example of how print can take a strong design and elevate it through specialist production and finishing.

If you’re heading to the Tattoo this year, keep an eye out for the programme. And when you pick up a copy, take a closer look at the cover — there’s a lot of craftsmanship packed into it.

Not every print project needs to be produced in the thousands.

Thanks to our HP Indigo digital presses, it's now commercially viable to produce short-run, bespoke print without compromising on quality, creativity or cost.

This recent project is a perfect example:
✨ Just 10 sets produced
✨ 40 different A6 cards, each printed on a different colour of GF Smith Colorplan 175gsm
✨ Finished with a 135gsm GF Smith Colorplan bellyband

Whether you're producing premium sample packs, luxury marketing materials, limited editions or bespoke presentations, short-run digital print gives you the flexibility to create something truly unique while keeping costs under control.

At J Thomson Colour Printers, our HP Indigo technology allows us to deliver exceptional colour quality and outstanding consistency to bring even the most ambitious ideas to life — no matter the quantity.

Sometimes, the smallest print runs make the biggest impression.

In a world dominated by flat digital screens, Embossing & Debossing gives printed materials something digital can never replicate - texture and dimension.

But what exactly are these processes? Simply put, Embossing raises the design up from the surface of the paper and Debossing presses the design down into the paper. Both can be combined with ink or foil or left entirely plain - known as “Blind Embossing/Debossing” creating a clean, understated effect that you can see and feel.

At J Thomson Colour Printers, our specialist in-house finishing techniques create tactile print that captures attention and leaves a lasting impression.

Ready to give your brand a competitive edge? We'd be delighted to discuss the wide range of embellishments we offer and how they can enhance your next project. Get in touch today to arrange a consultation with our team – [email protected]

Some books tell a story. Others preserve a piece of history.

We were delighted to produce this beautifully crafted case-bound book on behalf of Lex Lamb, celebrating the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival – an event that transformed Glasgow and left a lasting impression on millions of visitors.

More than 4.3 million people passed through its gates over 152 unforgettable days, making it the most successful National Garden Festival and playing a significant role in the city's regeneration.

For many Glaswegians, the Garden Festival isn't just part of the city's history – it's a treasured memory of family days out, iconic attractions and a summer unlike any other. This book brings those memories back to life through a carefully curated collection of archive photographs, insightful commentary, and an exploration of the festival's lasting impact on Glasgow and its people.

As printers, there's something particularly rewarding about producing a book that preserves such an important chapter of our city's past.

It's projects like these that remind us why print matters – creating something tangible that allows history, memories, and stories to be shared long into the future.

What are your memories of the 1988 Glasgow Garden Festival? We'd love to hear them in the comments. 🌸📖

Following the overwhelming success of our recent Race Night, we were incredibly proud to visit Beatson Cancer Charity to present a cheque for an amazing £11,000. 🖤 💛 🤍

This charity event held special meaning for us, as we lost a valued colleague to cancer last year. Supporting this cause was our way of honouring his memory while helping others facing similar challenges.

Seeing first-hand the incredible work the charity does for patients and their families was a powerful reminder of why events like these are so important. Knowing that the funds raised will help support life-changing care, services and research makes this achievement even more meaningful.

This success belongs to everyone who got involved. To our employees, customers, suppliers, sponsors and everyone who attended, donated, bought raffle tickets or supported the event in any way – thank you. Your generosity and enthusiasm made this possible.

As a business, we are proud to support such an inspiring charity and to play a small part in helping make a difference to the lives of those affected by cancer.

What an incredible night! 🌟

On Saturday 6th June, J Thomson Colour Printers hosted a charity Race Night and we are absolutely thrilled to announce that the evening was a huge success, raising a phenomenal £11,000 for the Beatson Cancer Charity!🎗️

The money was raised in memory of our dear colleague, Gary Stuart, who we sadly lost to stomach cancer in October 2025. Gary was a long-standing member of our team, and the support the Beatson provided his family during that time was truly invaluable.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, whether you donated a prize, bought a ticket and joined us on the night, purchased raffle tickets, placed bets, played stand-up bingo, took part in toss the coin, or bid generously in our auction - your incredible involvement made this total possible.
