Getting the most from google analytics for your golf club 🎰📇🔍⁣

Interpreting google analytics gives you an excellent insight into not only how your social media campaigns are performing, but the effectiveness of your all round online presence and how people are finding your club online.⁣

The key metrics for me in interpreting performance are:⁣

- ♻️ Return users: ⁣

I strongly believe re-targeting campaigns are the most effective methods of bringing in business to your golf club. By monitoring return users, I’m able to see how many people have clicked on the website, and then clicked again after either seeing a re-targeting ad, or going to google to do more digging.⁣

- ⏰ Session duration/bounce rate:⁣

Now obviously not everyone that clicks on your ad is going to be interested in your service or don’t have the time to read through your website, so maintaining a healthy bounce rate (i.e not in the 90s and above) shows that your targeting is good.⁣
Session duration gives you an insight into people’s behaviour on your website and how long they’ve spent reading about your services. Again this backs up your targeting, but also indicated the relevance of the content of your website and if people are getting what they want from the content there.⁣

- 📱💻 Sessions by device:⁣

As you can see, the vast majority of your traffic will be from mobile. As you would expect, people generally browse from their phones these days. This highlights the need for your website and content to be mobile optimised, in that your site is not only accessible on mobile but is optimised for this device. You need your website to run faster but also looking better on mobile to keep users engaged with your content.

Explore the main reason people come to your club. Whether its affordability, course quality, accessibility, competition etc... Whatever it is that makes you great, tailor your content to emphasise this a portray the club in this light on social.⁣

- Build brand fundamentals 📝⁣

Branding is key to any businesses long term growth. Establish the look and feel of your content and be consistent with colour schemes and use your brands logo at any chance you get. ⁣

- Combine both and convey on social media 📲⁣

Social media is both branding and sales, you'll get short term sales growth using social media marketing and paid advertising to target new members. You'll develop your club as a brand by posting consistently with quality creative that your followers can take value from and raise awareness of your club.

A simple and effective way to break down your content strategy is as follows:⁣

▪️Highlight your selling points by working closely with the pro shop, club, green staff and secretary to emphasise all the aforementioned knowledge and skills to show off the talent on show within the club.⁣

▪️Use social media ads (NOT BOOSTS) to target local golfers looking for a club in your area. Gain interest using an offer highlight your unique selling position in the content. Specify your audience, for example target people who’s interests are golf clubs, Taylor Made, Golf Digest etc.⁣

▪️Provide value in your posts to improve reach and build your club as a brand. Have the pro do 60 second swing fixes, branded golf quotes, swing videos, competitions. These all have excellent organic reach.⁣

▪️When members check into the club highlight it in your story. When they tag you in a post, repost it. Not only does this highlight the quality of the course and membership satisfaction, but it makes existing membership feel like they’re playing their part in the growth of the club.
