Standing on Glasgow Green is something truly extraordinary — the largest terracotta fountain in the world.

The Doulton Fountain was built in 1888 for the International Exhibition at Kelvingrove Park, designed as a commemoration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee .

At the end of the exhibition, the manufacturers Doulton & Co gifted it to the city, and it was installed on Glasgow Green in 1890.

Standing 46 feet tall with a 70-foot basin at its base , every single piece was hand-crafted. All 763 individual parts — figures, columns, decorative details — made by hand. There’s nothing else like it.

But here’s the thing. In the 1960s, the water was turned off and the fountain was allowed to fall into disrepair. Decades of neglect, vandalism, and weathering took their toll on one of Glasgow’s most remarkable treasures. It took a £4 million restoration, completed in 2005 , to bring it back.

Glasgow Green has been the heart of this city for centuries.

The Doulton Fountain is proof of what we’re capable of building — and a reminder of what happens when we stop looking after the things that matter.

Next time you’re cutting through the Green, stop and look up.

Did you know, it’s one of the oldest public parks in Britain?

It’s been here for over 500 years 🤯

Common ground, in every sense — used for grazing, gathering, protest, and celebration since at least the 1400s. The city has changed beyond recognition around it. The Green stays.

At its centre sits the People’s Palace. Built in 1898, it was a gift to the East End — culture and warmth for a community that had little of either. The museum tells Glasgow’s story through ordinary lives. It’s one of the few places in the city that does that honestly. Unfortunately it’s fell into a state of disrepair but hopefully this can be resolved and the place restored to its former glory.

In two weeks, Glasgow Green becomes something else entirely. TRNSMT returns 19–21 June — three days, four stages, 50,000 people a day. Richard Ashcroft, Kasabian, Lewis Capaldi headlining.

Im going to make a drone video of Kelvingrove, edited just on my phone using premiere pro.

One of the cool things about Premiere Pro for mobile is its free. No watermark, no ads, no need to upgrade to export. It’s made for social, the platforms that we are all actually posting on.

Before we get into making the video, this VoiceOver has been recorded on my phone. No Mic. Premiere has unlined free enhance speech. It uses the same technology as adobe podcast and is completely free. It transforms noisy recordings instantly.

Lets make the video. First, lets import my drone footage. We’ll use this lovely Kelvingrove footage.

Premiere mobile gives you free access to the adobe stock library so you can import video clips, images, stickers and audio. Lets find a nice track for this video. I’ll just drop this into the multi track timeline.

It’s really easy to drag and drop the clips in, resize them and see the audio waveforms at a glance.

Now I can use the high quality effects and transitions that have been built for social video, all for free with no paywall. Let’s try Zoom in. Actually cross Zoom works well for this.

I can also colour grade with LUTS and Lightroom presets. This warm preset looks nice. You can adjust this to suit your clips so nothing looks like its a default template.

Lastly, Premiere has Automatic speech-to-text captions with styling options — branded and designed rather than default auto-text. This is Free and unlimited. This is really useful and we know that videos with voiceovers that have captions, usually have longer watch times.
