Inspired by the late, great Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, I originally wrote ‘Daisy Chain’ as a ‘Blues Etude’ for my jazz piano students - hastily sketched out on this piece of manuscript. The title refers to Oscar’s knack of knitting together short, rapid phrases into long streams of melodic invention. Marrying the syncopated left hand stride accompaniment with the intricate Be-Bop melody can be a challenge for any pianist. The ‘Live from LA’ recording features my trio with Ewan Hastie on bass and Tom Gordon on drums and is available to stream and download at: euan-stevenson-trio.ffm.to/daisychainlive
