We’re finalists! 🏆

Brace has been named a finalist for Small Business of the Year at the Gloucestershire Business Awards 2026.

This is the sixth year of the awards, and the organisers say competition has never been tougher. So we’re very proud to have made it this far.

Our Finance & Tech Director, Mitch Bracey, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for Small Business of the Year. Brace has come a long way over the years – would you believe we’re coming up for 20 – and it’s great to see the hard work and commitment of the whole team being recognised. We’ve got a fantastic bunch of people here, and this recognition is as much theirs as it is ours. Fingers crossed for November!”

What happens when the final whistle blows on a rugby career? 🏉

This week Brace headed to Kingsholm Stadium for a Gloucester Rugby Business Club event, hosted by Willans LLP solicitors and Emerge Digital in the Mike Teague Lounge.

The theme was life after rugby and building a business from scratch. Jake Polledri has gone from the pitch to pressing c***r, and Nick Robinson now runs an insurance company. Both talked openly about what it really takes to start something new when your old career ends.

It was a brilliant room to be in. Thanks to Stuart Hesk and Tabitha Penny from Hewer Facilities Management, Nigel Church and Tom Henson from Emerge, Ben Caton from The Pied Piper Appeal, Angela from C2S Growth Consultancy, Spencer McPherson from Still Moving, Steve Layer from Abbey Business Interiors and everyone else who stopped for a chat.

For us, the best part was the conversations about getting your marketing right as a new start-up. That means knowing who you’re talking to, sounding like yourself, and not trying to do everything at once.

Sunshine, SMEs and surprise llamas, Gloucestershire always delivers!

This week we went to the Meet the Buyer event at Hartpury University and College and met so many brilliant local SMEs.

We're new members of Together Gloucestershire, so it was a real pleasure to connect with old and new faces and learn how we can support each other.

We also got a potted history of Hartpury. It started in 1948 as a farming college supporting post-war food production, and it has grown into the acclaimed university and college it is today, with an impressive list of world-renowned sporting alumni. And who knew they have meerkats, wallabies and llamas on site? 🦙

It was great to bump into Nikki Budding, Richard Arthur and Camilla Barnes, to meet Tom Bryan from Wellarc, and to hear from so many inspiring people from the university.

Add some beautiful sunshine and it was a pretty perfect day. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Where to start...what a day!!

We had the most amazing time at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Expo. From fully launching our new Adaptive Marketing package, website and new mascot Pixel (who went down a STORM!) to meeting so many of the fantastic members and companies in the Chamber and day visitors, we came away energised and reminded why we're a part of this special group.

A few special mentions:

🍰 Emma Passey and Amy Andrews at Paisley Flour Catering. We got lucky being opposite their beautiful stand. The food was incredible, and they were the best neighbours we could have asked for.

💻 Adrian Ayland - IT Security and Support and Samuel Anderson at System Force I.T.. Always great to see you both.

🪧 The awesome breakfast and company - Lee Reece at VSL Group and Alice Fox and team at PB Signs. It was great to chat!

🎤 DRPG and their interesting talk on the King's Industry Award.

🗣️A double session at the SWAP networking events - such a fun way to meet so many new people and learn about the incredible things they do.

Thanks to everyone who visited us, Nick Bracey, Graham Springett, Mel Homewood and Zonnie Burton were delighted to chat with you all.

And thanks to the Chamber team for a brilliant day, we look forward to continuing our collaboration throughout the year.

On Thursday evening, Brace joined fellow C2S Growth Consultancy members at Workplace Interiors Co for an evening of catching up, making new connections and getting a timely update on property and tax at the Family Business Forum.

Thanks to Nick Latimer from Crowe UK and BPE Solicitors for sharing their insight. There's plenty changing in property and tax at the moment, so it was good to hear it explained clearly by people who know it inside out.

A big thank you as well to Max Hough and the Hough family for hosting us. The setting was fantastic, and it was great to see what the team at Workplace have built.

And of course, thanks to C2S for bringing everyone together. Evenings like this are a big part of why Gloucestershire's business community feels so well connected.

As proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, this is a community that matters to us. The Covenant is our promise to support those who serve and have served, along with their families.

This week, the Brace team joined the Wessex RFCA Defence Insight Briefing and AGM at Taunton Racecourse, and it was a genuinely thought-provoking afternoon.

It was a privilege to hear from Polly Miller-Perkins CBE, the UK's first Armed Forces Commissioner. Her role gives serving personnel and their families an independent voice, and it was valuable to hear first-hand how that work is taking shape.

We also heard fascinating talks from:

🔹 Jo Lucas, REED in Partnership
🔹 Will Oulton, South West Armed Forces Covenant Partnership Board
🔹 Laura van der Merwe, VALOUR

Across every talk, one message came through clearly: the support around our Armed Forces community, including Reservists, veterans, their families and the employers who stand behind them, works best when organisations across the South West pull together.

Thank you to Wessex RFCA for bringing so many committed people into one room, and to every speaker for sharing their time and insight.

Mel's Running the Cheltenham Half Marathon 🏃‍♀️❤️

Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity is part of the fabric of our community, there when life throws us a medical drama, something Mel, like many of us, probably took for granted.

But last year, the hospital quite literally saved her life. A horse-riding accident left her with a broken neck, and just as she was recovering, she was rushed into ICU with severe sepsis. A couple of operations later, she's made a full recovery, thanks to incredible NHS care every step of the way.

So now, Mel's giving something back.

She's taking on the Cheltenham Half Marathon to raise money for Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospital. If you can spare £1 or £2, it'll help keep her going through training and those race-day miles.
