Excuse the late posting of this but with the scattering of tree tinsel still lingering it had to be posted. A recent pack design for has turned out beautifully for their baked goods and Christmas hampers. As it turns out they had plenty of Christmas orders to keep them baking over and beyond this Christmas which is great news for this awesome charity. The Clink Bakery change attitudes, transform lives and create second chances for those at HMP Brixton. The Clink Charity achieve stellar results and has one of the lowest reoffending rates in the UK.

The Clink clearly demonstrates what can be achieved when society collectively engages to help those who want and deserve a second chance. Happy New Year to all for 2024. A huge heartfelt thanks to all of the clients that have supported Brand Picks this year. With our best year to date Brand Picks has created and supported so many new and interesting projects. We have worked with the delicious Little Larder baby and toddler meals which my little one is now hooked on, Created a complete packaging rebrand for We Are Heylo if looking for a low carb/keto alternative their products are second to none. Other projects have included a complete range for The Sweet Snob, packaging their chocolates and sweets in unique high end packaging, Christmas hampers for The Clink Bakery, Packaging for ready meals set in Alicante Spain for Grandma Kate’s Kitchen and Prep2u, More Packaging development for Hartridges drinks 🍸, Candles packaging and brand development, Spices exhibition design for Spice Realm, branding design and website mood development for Black Glass Comms Ltd.

🚀 Projects on going into 2024 include: An all new bread range development for an exciting new client, Cocktail packaging and branding developent, new vegan substitute product innovation in progress for packaging and branding, renewable energy business branding, takeaway packaging for Middle Eastern meals and so much more.

It’s been one hell of a year and I am so excited to see where the business takes me next year. I am truly grateful for all the continued projects coming forward I couldn’t do it without you. I continue to grow the business through passion and love for what I do and the spirit of my clients carries me through. I am lucky to have had so many lovely clients along the way. 2024 is going to unfold with its own unique set of roller coaster ups and downs hopefully more ups, with a very special announcement to make later in the year 🥰 My clients and their business success is the reason I design and create. So excited to see Heylo's packaging come to life with it's fresh new look! Bright and bold to greet the eye on shelf whilst also communicating effectively their key information and selling points. Not mention their breads are out of this world amazing. If interested in exploring low carb options this brand is one to look for. More news to come on this rebrand in the coming weeks.

A fascinating dark history of jelly babys. A to the history of its packaging.

An article by the BBC takes a look at its journey from a Lancashire sweet factory to mass-produced giant of the confectionery world:

Confectionery historians believe the earliest jelly baby was the work of an Austrian confectioner who worked for Fryers of Lancashire.
It is thought that in 1864 he was asked to make a mould for jelly bears, but the resulting sweets looked more like newborn infants and were subsequently given the ghoulish name, Unclaimed Babies.

Tim Richardson, author of Sweets: A History Of Temptation, said although the name might sound ghastly to modern ears, sweet-eaters in the Victorian era would barely have batted an eyelid.
"Unclaimed babies were a part of life back then - people would leave them on church steps and it's possible that people even found the name amusing,"

A shortage of raw materials halted production during World War Two and it wasn't until 1953 when they were relaunched as Jelly Babies that their popularity really took off.

It would be another 40 years before the Jelly Baby was treated to yet another makeover, when Bassett's was taken over by Cadbury-Schweppes in 1989.

This ushered in a new era for the sweet, which saw each baby given a name and their personalities brought to life at the hands of a team of animators.
Brilliant, Bubbles, Baby Bonny, Bigheart and Bumper entered the world of music and television when they appeared in two commercials produced in the 1990s.
Sketches and other creations by one of the artists, Bob Godfrey, feature in an archive of his work at the University of the Creative Arts.
