Local Commuter Launches Community App Designed to Help Rail Passengers During Disruption
A local commuter from Surrey has launched a new mobile application designed to help rail passengers communicate more easily during delays and disruption affecting routes into London Waterloo and surrounding stations.
The app, called RedScreen®, was developed following years of repeated disruption affecting commuters travelling through stations including Guildford, Godalming, Farncombe, Milford, Witley, Haslemere, Liphook, and Petersfield.
Created by commuters for commuters, the platform allows passengers travelling on the same routes to communicate in real time via local station-based chatrooms, helping users remain informed during delays and better coordinate their onward journeys home.
The concept originally began as a small commuter WhatsApp group during periods of severe rail disruption before gradually evolving into a standalone mobile application.
Founder Timothy Simpson-Lee explained:
“During disruption, commuters are often willing to help one another, but there was no platform specifically designed for that purpose. RedScreen was created to improve communication between passengers and help people plan their way home.”
The application includes: • real-time commuter chatrooms • nearby-station grouping • quiet-time notification controls • privacy and moderation settings
RedScreen® is initially launching within commuter communities across Surrey and Hampshire before wider expansion.
The application is available via the Apple App Store, with Android support planned shortly afterwards.
