After listening to The Mind Full Podast (one of my favourites) with Dermot Whelan and Dr Mark Rowe, I couldn't wait to order his latest book!

'Things Your Future Self Will Thank You For' covers everything from sleeping well and saunas to nutrition and volunteering - loved it!

He also talks about becoming the CEO of your future health which really struck a cord and the little things we can do today to improve our lives tomorrow.

I love how he talks about the importance of human connection, community, and relationships as part of living well too, which is exactly what Love Your Business is all about.

At every networking event, you are never a stranger, instead someone who is welcomed by lots of incredible business owners who really just want to help each other, with many of them going off to work together and become really good friends!

The next Love Your Business networking event at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel is on Thursday, 27th August, 11-1pm.

There’s also a free annual networking event on Gullane beach – which will be the 3rd one – on the 6th August, 1030 – 1230. If you’d like to come along, drop me an email for more information at [email protected].

One of the many very special moments at Love Your Business last week with the wonderful guest speaker Kylie Reid, host, presenter & founder of egg, was talking about ‘facing the fear and doing it anyway’ and also hearing from the amazing Sophie Gets Social & Alice Thompson on their approach too!

Thank you so much Kylie for taking the time out to share your entrepreneurial journey with us and some of the brilliant highlights along the way, and for the golden nuggets we all took away around seeking out new opportunities, protecting your values and following your gut.

The energy and buzz in the room was amazing!

Thank you to everyone who came along, especially to those who I know are new to networking and were a bit nervous but faced their fear of getting out there and speaking to people - and loved it!

LYB has never been about how many leads you can get or business cards you can hand out at one event. Since the day it started over 8yrs ago, it has always been much more about having two-way meaningful conversations, building strong relationships, going in with a ‘how can I help you’ approach and enjoying taking time out to work ‘on’ your business.

Everyone who comes is incredibly warm, welcoming and supportive towards each other, with many of them now collaborating and becoming great friends.

To watch the ripple effect of people in business helping each other who are in the same business boat still makes my heart sing. Networking really does work!

The next Love Your Business networking event at Black Ivy in Bruntsfield is on Thursday, 27th August, 11-1pm

Tickets are £20 with 10% going to the LYB 2026 charity partner Grassmarket Community Project.

At Love Your Business not only do you hear from inspiring speakers and meet amazing people who all want to help each other, but you also help raise funds for Grassmarket Community Project, this year's charity partner, who receive 10% of all ticket sales.

The award-winning charity takes an innovative approach to creating a community which provides sanctuary and support to people dealing with multiple complex issues.

These include homelessness, mental/physical health problems, learning difficulties, poverty, substance misuse and physical abuse.

Through social enterprise, mentoring, education and support in a nurturing environment, the Project creates opportunities for those furthest from mainstream education and employment.

Individuals develop skills and confidence, re-connect with themselves and their community, and improve their overall health and wellbeing.

They also have a tartan shop in the Grassmarket where I learned all about their very own Greyfriars Tartan, designed by one of their members.

If you haven't been to their cafe, Coffee Saints, I can't recommend it enough - there's one at the Grassmarket location and Little King Street behind St James Quarter.

In addition to receiving proceeds from ticket sales they also get PR/Marketing support throughout the year.

Last week it was great to be able to deliver a brand/marketing session for the team and get to know them and find out even more about the incredible job they are all doing!

If you fancy coming along to the next Love Your Business networking event at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel, it is on Thursday, 27th August, 11-1pm. Be great to see you there!

The final countdown is on to this Thursday's Love Your Business networking event, 28th May, 11-1pm at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel.

I'm really looking forward to chatting to our wonderful guest speaker Kylie Reid, who is a presenter, host and the founder of egg - a media and events platform that connects and champions over 200,000 women across Scotland.

Her career has been far from linear - a truly squiggly path that’s led her to where she is today.

That journey has shaped not only how she shows up, but how she helps others step into visibility, build confidence, and create opportunities for themselves.

On the day, Kylie will be sharing her perspective on the power of storytelling and why your personal brand is one of your most valuable business assets.

She’ll also challenge the idea that you need to have it all figured out — showing instead that it’s never too late to evolve, pivot or step into something new.

Expect honest insights, practical takeaways and a fresh look at how to show up in a way that feels both authentic and impactful.

Tickets are £20 with 10% going to the LYB 2026 charity partner, Grassmarket Community Project.

One week to go till next Love Your Business networking event on Thursday, 28th May, 11-1pm at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel, with another amazing speaker lined up, Kylie Reid, presenter, host and founder of egg who knows all about the power of networking and being part of a supportive community!

Can't wait to hear all about her entrepreneurial journey and bring people together to build their network and support each other.

Networking really does help with referrals, word-of-mouth recommendations and can lead to strong partnerships and collaborations that help businesses grow faster.

It can also be great for knowledge-sharing, establishing credibility and brand recognition and solving business challenges, especially if you are mindful that networking is less about 'selling' and more about building genuine long-term relationships.

It's a two-way process and going in with a 'how can I help someone' mindset always comes back tenfold.

Tickets are £20 with 10% going to the LYB charity partner, Grassmarket Community Project.

Really looking forward to chatting with our guest speaker at Love Your Business next week, Kylie Reid, who I’ve had the pleasure of working for many years to increase visibility for a number of my clients.

Kylie and I have many things in common, including a strong desire to help people in business and create a community where people really feel supported and can help each other.

She is a presenter, host and the founder of egg - a media and events platform that connects and champions over 200,000 women across Scotland.

What started as a small Facebook group has grown into one of the most engaged communities for women, bringing people together through events, content and conversation.

Her career has been far from linear - a truly squiggly path that’s led her to where she is today. That journey has shaped not only how she shows up, but how she helps others step into visibility, build confidence, and create opportunities for themselves.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Kylie Reid for a number of years, supporting clients including Foxlake Adventures, Wild Shore Dundee and most recently Wild Cairns in East Lothian, and the impact she creates around visibility and profile raising is always incredible.

So, I'm over the moon that she'll be our speaker at the next Love Your Business networking event at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel on Thursday, 28th May, 11-1pm.

Thank you to everyone who came along to last week's Love Your Business networking event at Black Ivy Bar & Hotel with the wonderful guest speaker Matt Cameron who really got us all thinking about our wellbeing priorities.

Matt, who has worked in the hospitality industry for years, before setting up his leadership business, shared his story about working for two different organisations at the same time and the impact it had on him, resulting in a shift in his own priorities.

He also took us through the 'Wheel of Life' exercise to help prevent us from running on empty and doing what actually fulfills us and brings us joy!

Thank you Matt!

I've always thought the quote 'a rising tide lifts many boats' fits perfectly with Love Your Business.

The idea of 'lifting many boats' sums up how networking should be less transaction and more about having meaningful conversations with people in the same business boat as you and building strong two-way connections.

Having a collaborative mindset and a 'how can I help you' approach results in everyone thriving!
