Most small business websites get their meta title completely wrong — and it's costing them clicks.
Your meta title is that blue link people see in Google search results. It's often the first thing a potential customer reads about your business, and you've got about 60 characters to convince them to click.
Here's the formula I use for local service businesses to get both clicks and rankings:
Primary Keyword + Location | Core Value/Offer/CTA
It keeps things tight, relevant, and compelling. A few examples so you can see it in action:
- Plumber in Brighton | 24/7 Emergency Callout
- Gardening Services Leeds | Free No-Obligation Quote
- Electrician South London | Same-Day Service Available
Your meta title isn't creative writing. It's signposting. And it needs to do three things: lead with what people are actually searching for, show them you're local, and give them a reason to click your link instead of the one below it.
Most websites just use their business name or "Home" or "Welcome." That tells Google — and your potential customers — absolutely nothing.
If you want, tell me three things and I'll write yours for free: your main keyword, your service area, and your unique offer or selling point. Just drop them in a message, and I'll send you back a meta title you can use straight away.
