Large businesses have a whole department for this… it’s called Marketing! 🎨

You didn’t take the leap by owning your own business because you love or know anything about Marketing, websites, social media, emails… you took the risk because you’re awesome at what you do.

Luckily for you, that’s exactly why I took my leap.

I wouldn’t be able to create a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, so why should a florist be able to create a website that gets enquiries?! We all have our strengths.

Thank goodness, or the world would be a pretty boring place!

I’ve been elbow deep in small business websites for a couple of years now. Nearly 100 of them, audited properly, not just a quick scroll.

And there are a handful of things that show up again. And again. And again.

Nobody teaches this stuff. But once you see them, you can’t unsee them.

(*cough* there actually is a course that can teach this stuff *cough* - its coming in September)

How are we this far into August already?!? 😨

It’s time for two more small business web pages: an astrology mentor Charlotte Nixon and a floral artist

Pop the kettle on. We’re about to have a good nose at what Google sees on their web pages.

Both are gorgeous. But neither one has a H1 pulling it weight (the most important heading tag going, and Google’s basically ignoring huge chunks of their site without it). One only has one other heading, and one’s got barely any alt text on its images, which is a proper missed opportunity.

This week I ran a coaching page Jane Galloway | Midlife Coach & Speaker | Awaken Your Life and a nutrition page Debbie Hartin MN.Nutr | Weight Loss Nutritionist through my SEO tool to see exactly what Google sees when it looks at their site, and there some super easy wins have popped up in both.

When a brand new Godalming business owner got in touch in December, she hadn’t even signed the lease on her premises or started her business.
