Terminology Tuesday 💬
Our word for today is Grain Direction.
This refers to the fibres within paper; when produced, they tend to go in one direction or another. Starting with Grain Long (GL) and Grain Short (GS), the former refers to the grain running parallel to the longer side, while the latter refers to the grain running parallel to the shorter side.
Having the correct direction ensures smooth, crack-free folds, leading to better binding and preventing paper curling.
