Our second new stitch club starting in July is Ribbon Embroidery led by Jacqueline. The first 2 pics are Jacqueline's samples and the third are the lovely fabrics club participants will be using. The other pics show Marina's use of ribbon embroidery on her crazy patchwork. New stitch clubs start in July. Nadine is leading one on Huck Embroidery, also known as Swedish weaving. The stitching only appears on the front of the fabric and is a type of counted thread work. If you are interested in this and didn't sign up at the June meeting, do let Nicky know so you can be considered for a place...

Toni Buckby () was this month's YES speaker. She told us all about her blackwork and had lots of samples of linen with different thread counts together with her stitching on those samples where each different stitch was worked for an hour. It was very clear that the finer the thread count, the smaller the area that could be worked in an hour - great to illustrate how long work would take

Our speaker this month was Toni Buckby - studio who came to talk to us about Re-embroidering Blackwork. She is working on a PhD in conjunction with the V&A studying their blackwork collection and working out how it was made. Here is a picture of a coif (head covering) from the V&A collection (image 3), Toni's design taken from it (image 4), her reconstruction of it (image 2) and a detail of her work (image 1). Her piece is on linen with a thread count of 74 threads/inch which was coarser than the original. Her work is incredibly fine and took 300 hours to complete. We were all amazed and impressed by her work and her talk was very interesting.
