Clearing out my mum's house at the moment. Emotional, exhausting and eye-opening.

EDIT - Mum is OK - I should have made that clearer! She very dramatically fell down the stairs and cannot return to her house with a badly broken foot, so house is being sold, and she is only allowed to live in bungalows from now on!!

It's surprising what we hold onto without realising. Possessions, memories, stuff kept "just in case." Plenty of mad outfits from years gone by.

Business is the same.
- Old ways of working
- Outdated processes
- Offers/services that no longer fit
- Habits and ways of thinking from earlier stages of the business

I've just started a new mastermind (Calibration with Rachel Pearson) and the timing feels right.

Not to add more... to clear out what no longer serves me and where I'm trying to go.

Growth isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it's about letting go first.

What are you holding onto out of habit?

Clients moving on is not a failure.

According to the recently published Foxwell 2026 Digital Marketing Agencies report, the number 1 reason agencies lose clients isn’t poor performance. The top reason is clients moving things in-house. Not being replaced by another agency and not because something went wrong

In many cases, it’s actually the opposite. The business has grown to a point where building an internal team makes sense. Being part of that journey is something to be proud of and I love being a stepping stone in the growth of exciting, up-and-coming ecommerce brands.

The hardest part of running ads (that no one talks about)?

It’s not the platforms - it’s the pressure.

• Taking responsibility when performance dips - even when it’s not fully in your control
• Constantly questioning what’s working (and what isn’t)
• That moment when a client goes quiet… and your mind goes straight to the ads (when usually they are just busy running their business).
• Holding high standards that push results - but also make it harder to switch off

There are so many variables you can’t control. Seasonality. Market shifts. Global events. Even the weather.

The challenge is balancing care and ownership with perspective.

Being great at ads requires both analytical thinking and emotional resilience.

🚶‍♀️My best business habit has nothing to do with ads.

No dashboards, metrics or campaigns.

Headspace. No makeup, crazy hair, just getting out the door to walk as soon as the kids are on their way to school.

It's one of the simplest things that I do but it has the biggest impact on how I run my business.

A few reasons why it works:
💭 Clears thinking before work.
⚠️ Helps with strategy and problem-solving.
🧠 Important for mental wellbeing.
🤔 Running a business requires space to think.

What's your best business habit that has nothing to do with business at first glance?

An early-bird daff spotted on my morning walk. A reminder, in this final week of January, that spring isn't far away. 😍

January can feel very long, but I've really enjoyed it this year - not something I remember feeling before. I'm approaching a year of walking every day, and just being out in the season makes you appreciate it so much more.

It’s also been a quietly productive time. Working with a new client, building others and using this slower period in ecomm to put strong foundations in place, so we’re ready for all the seasons ahead when things start to bloom. 🌼

Your digital ads elf here, with your annual reminder not to let your festive ads outstay their welcome - like an elf on the shelf STILL causing trouble after Christmas day. Nobody needs that.

There is nothing more annoying than ordering a Christmas present and having it arrive at New Year - so when your last-post dates pass, it’s usually time to:

⛄ Drop the heavy Christmas messaging
⛄ Shift away from gifting
⛄ Lean into sales or, new year or post-Christmas treat messaging (for all those slightly disgruntled present-receivers 👀)

And remember that the gap between Christmas and New Year is a big deal in ecomm. When we're all feeling fat, bored and scrolling - half tuned into to a festive rerun. It’s one of the quiet opportunities of Q4 that you won't want to miss out on.

Avoid comparison panic this Black Friday...
If you're in ecomm, you'll have either already launched your offers or you're about to. This is your reminder to stick to the plan and stay calm...

It’s very easy to look at what everyone else is doing and feel like you should slash prices, change strategy or reinvent your whole funnel overnight. You might even look at early data and send yourself into a full-blown spin, cutting budgets or throwing more spend in willy-nilly.

But honestly? The best results come from sticking to the plan you set when you weren’t in a frenzy. Your audiences are warm. Your creative is learning. This is a long game you (hopefully) set in motion MONTHS ago. Don't be thrown off course now by panic and overthinking.

Stay calm, watch the data, make small tweaks (but not immediately). Keep your eyes on the horizon.

You’ve got this. 🖤🎁

If you're an ecomm business rushing headlong into ads in a pre-peak-season panic, slow down and take a moment to consider whether you are right to go all in now, or whether you need to take stock and build up more slowly.

Before ads can deliver results, your wider marketing foundations need to be solid. Ads amplify what’s already there. They're definitely not a magic bullet.

If you don't have any one of these elements in place, you may not be ready:
‣ email nurture flow
‣ accurate tracking
‣ strong social presence
‣ smooth website experience (mobile and desktop)

Think of ads as the windows and doors to your shop. They are amazing at getting people inside, but if what's inside isn't geared up to sell, the ads can't fix that.

Get the basics right first. Your finances will thank you later.

Unpopular opinion: if you've not started your ads for peak, you're too late. You can't rush into it and expect results. Go slowly, get it right and increase your chance of getting a good return on your ad spend. Only fools rush in, and all that.
