Clocked in vs clocked out

There are two sides to everyone at Sokada. The version that turns up Monday to Friday with their head down, and the version that appears the second the computers turn off.

Stephen spends all week in his code editor and then goes looking for the nearest pint of Guinness. Jaida swaps her keyboard for a horse and a paddleboard. Jess trades her desk for the other side of the world. Jude and Julian keep the agency running by day and head off on adventures by night. And Libby, well, the photos do the talking.

Same team. Very different energy after 5pm.

Happy Friday from all of us at Sokada!

A new website for a much-loved Heathfield florist.

We recently launched a fresh new website for The Flower Workshop Heathfield, designed to make it easier for customers to browse flowers online, explore bouquet options, read helpful florist advice, and find the right floral service for every occasion.

From sympathy flowers and wedding flowers to corporate flowers, event flowers, plants, gifts, and accessories, the new Flower Workshop website brings everything together in one simple, easy-to-use place.

The design keeps their friendly, independent florist feel at the heart of the website, while giving customers a clear online shop, useful blog content, and a smooth way to discover what they offer.

Posting on Instagram and still hearing crickets? Most of the time the problem is not your content. It is a lack of engagement.

If you are a small business trying to grow on Instagram, posting and walking away is a fast way to get ignored. The accounts that actually grow are the ones showing up in the comments every day.

Start with your own posts. Save them, repost them and reply to everyone who comments. Then spend ten minutes a day engaging with people in your industry, your ideal customers and other local businesses. Go back to your last post and keep those conversations going.

Real Instagram growth happens when you join the conversation rather than waiting for it to come to you. The more you show up, the more your posts get seen by the people who matter most to your small business.

If your social media has stalled and you would rather hand it over to people who do this every day, get in touch with Sokada. We will help you grow your Instagram.

Have you ever posted anything controversial on social media? Did it work?

Being a little bit controversial with what you say often gets far more engagement than playing it safe.

Not rude. Not offensive. Not posting for the sake of drama.

But saying something that makes people stop, think, agree, disagree, or want to add their opinion.

Because the posts that get comments, shares and views are usually the ones that create a reaction.

And let’s be honest, “Here’s a nice update about our business” doesn’t always do that.

But something like:

“Posting every day isn’t the answer if your content is boring.”

That’s more likely to get people talking.

I think businesses are sometimes so worried about saying the wrong thing that they end up saying nothing memorable at all.

What do you think?

If your website is not bringing in enquiries, it is time for a change.

We build websites, run Google Ads and handle SEO and digital marketing for businesses across East Sussex, all built to get you found online and get the phone ringing.

The difference is in how we work. We take the time to understand your business first, which is exactly what Michelle said while we have been working with her:

"The team are fantastic. Really easy to work with, they listen, problem solve, and take time to understand your business. They really care about what they do, and it shows. Highly recommend."

We have been saying this for a while...hashtags are not the way to grow on Instagram anymore.

If you want your content to be found, Instagram needs to understand what your post is about. That means your captions, on-screen text, profile name, bio, and content topics all play a part in your Instagram SEO.

Instead of relying on a long list of hashtags, think about what your audience might actually search for.

For example:
“Instagram tips for local businesses”
“social media advice for small businesses”
“how to improve Instagram reach”
“caption ideas for business owners”
“Instagram content ideas for small businesses”

You do not need to overthink it, but you do need to keep up. Make your social media content clear, specific, and useful so Instagram knows who to show it to.

Need help with your Instagram strategy, social media content, or getting your business found online? Send us a DM or get in touch with Sokada.

Clearly the boss is trying to speed things up and took this a little too seriously 😂🙄

Someone needs to tell him that this is not the way to retirement 😬 besides, he still has websites to build 😌

When was the last time your website brought in an enquiry?

For a lot of professional services firms, the honest answer is “I can’t remember.” That’s usually the conversation that starts a project with us.

One of our recent ones - Advice Firm Compliance Ltd - is now live. They’re a compliance specialist for IFA firms, run by Ian Beardow, who spent decades doing this work inside the industry before going out on his own. We rebuilt their website from scratch, top to bottom, with a structure built around the enquiries they actually want to get.

Is your website actually bringing in enquiries, or just sitting there looking pretty?

James from JRP Direct Ltd knew his was overdue for a rebuild. Julian and the web design team delivered a brand-new website built for lead generation, with a clean structure, proper on-page SEO, and a design that actually reflects his business. He was so pleased with the service that Jude and the marketing team are now running his SEO and digital marketing, too.

This is exactly why Sokada offers both under one roof. A great website is the foundation. Marketing is what fills it with the right customers. When web design and marketing work together, you get a return on your investment instead of two agencies blaming each other for the lack of enquiries.

If your website is letting your business down, the quickest way to find out what’s holding it back is a quick chat with our team. We’re a friendly family-run agency in Heathfield, East Sussex, and we’d love to talk about how we could help you and your business.

Give us a call on 01435 817226, and we’ll arrange a 30-minute website audit, telling you exactly what we’d do to start bringing in more enquiries.

Your customers aren't searching for what you think they're searching for.

A solicitor calls it "conveyancing." Their customer Googles "cost to buy a house." A roofer talks about "fascias and soffits." Their customer types, "white plastic stuff under my gutter."

Same service. Different words. And if your website uses your words instead of theirs, you're invisible on Google - no matter how good your web design looks.
Three things any small business owner can do this week to start getting found:
1. Open Google and start typing a service you offer. The autocomplete suggestions are real searches from real customers in your local area. Steal those phrases. Put them on your website.
2. Scroll to the bottom of any Google search and look at "People also ask" and "Related searches." Free gold for anyone doing their own local marketing in Sussex, Kent, or wherever you work.
3. Write one page that answers one specific question your customers actually ask. Not "Our Services." Something like "How much does a new Vaillant boiler cost?" Or "Best place for Brunch in Eastbourne" That's the kind of page that turns a Google search into an enquiry.

Good web design and good marketing aren't separate jobs - they're the same job. Your website needs to be findable, readable, and built around the questions your customers are already typing into Google.

If your small business isn't getting enough enquiries from your website, we'd love to take a look. We offer a free 30-minute website audit - no sales pitch, no jargon, just an honest review of what's holding your site back and what we'd do to fix it.

We're a family-run web design and marketing team based in Heathfield, East Sussex, working with small businesses across Sussex, Kent and the South East. Drop us a comment or call us at 01435 817226.
