How do you know you have something original, human? Take away all the tech, the AI, the websites. Give them a pencil and paper and ask them to come up with their thoughts on how to solve your issues. That is how I would employ a designer. If they can't do it on paper on the spot at an interview, then I would question their ability. Go back to the designers who have passion, love for design, those who breathe it. I am not going to learn more software to get a job, as I cannot keep up with progress, who can at this rate. Give me a pencil and a cigarette packet and a challenge, dump me in a café, people watching the real world. I designed the Learning Zone for Tesco at the Millennium Dome on train ticket on the way there. Employ real people. PS I don't smoke! Check me out I am real.

Why do you need a designer? Not just any designer, one that can design without a computer, just a pencil and paper. That is a true designer.
