Some projects just feel made for you.

A guest house in Colorado. Moody, vintage, eclectic, and deeply comfortable. The kind of place built on feeling, where every corner has been chosen with intention and guests leave already planning their return.

But before any of that, I needed to understand the story this place tells just by existing.

That’s where every creative direction starts for me, not with aesthetics, but with the heart of the business. What it believes in. What it wants people to feel the moment they walk through the door.

From there I built two visual directions, both rooted in the heritage and landscape of the American Southwest, but each finding their own way there. Swipe through to see both concepts.

A little reintroduction, because I’m spotting some new faces around here. Hello, welcome, I’m so glad you’re here! 👋

I’m Cathrin - a designer dedicated to building brands and Squarespace websites for creatives who are brilliant at what they do but whose online presence isn’t keeping up.

I spend my days building websites, crafting brand identities, all whilst listening to murders in the background (true crime podcasts are basically my design soundtrack 🎙️🔪).

My approach? Laidback luxury. Strategy meets personality. Brands that get you booked and feel unmistakably you.

“Even better than I imagined.” — those are the words I work for.

There’s nothing quite like a client who comes in with a vision and leaves with something that exceeds it. That’s what happened with Jane at Your Life Hypnotherapy, and it’s what I want for every single person I work with.

The truth is, the best results always come from collaboration. When a client trusts the process, shares their vision openly, and we build something together, that’s when the magic really happens. Jane was an absolute dream to work with, and seeing her reaction to the final result is something I’ll always treasure.

Here’s the thing about designing a website for something as personal as hypnotherapy - trust is everything.

When Jane and I worked on the Your Life Hypnotherapy website, we knew it needed to do a lot of heavy lifting:

→ Show her qualifications and experience (credibility matters)
→ Make hypnotherapy feel accessible, not intimidating
→ Feel professional without being cold
→ Make it really easy for someone to reach out

So we focused on creating space, literally. Considered spacing that gives people room to breathe. Carefully chosen imagery that feels calm and safe. Simple navigation (because nobody wants to hunt for information when they’re already nervous about making contact).

The emerald green palette runs throughout, tying the website back to the brand and creating that cohesive, calming experience.

Because when someone’s thinking about therapy, your website is often where they decide whether to get in touch. It needs to make that decision easier, not harder.

This is what strategic design looks like when it’s done with real people in mind.

Can I tell you the story behind this logo? Because I love it.

When Jane was getting ready to launch Your Life Hypnotherapy, a friend gave her a bowl shaped like two hands - a beautiful symbol of support and the safe space she creates for her clients.

That became the inspiration for her brand mark.

We added three simple leaves to bring in that sense of growth and transformation, keeping everything natural and grounded.

Nothing fussy or overcomplicated.

The colours: deep emerald greens with softer jade tones. They feel calm and trustworthy whilst still being warm and approachable.

The typography stayed deliberately simple - clean fonts that feel confident without being decorative.

And the tagline “Believe and you will achieve”? That’s pure Jane. It captures exactly how she works with clients - empowering them to trust their own potential.

This is what happens when your brand genuinely reflects who you are and what you offer. The right clients recognise themselves in it.

Unused brand concept from a lovely project for a dog behaviour therapist based in Sweden.

This particular icon was designed in an organic, wood-cut style from an image of her dog looking out over their lake. The icon reflects the business owner’s personal rehabilitation story with her own dog which started the whole reason for her business.

In the end a different concept was taken forward but this icon still holds a special place in my heart so before she gets archived I thought I would give her a moment in the sun.

Hard truth as we finish out the week!

Building a brand that tries to appeal to everyone is a sure fire way to not connect in a deep and meaningful way with anyone, and especially not your target audience.

The truth is

👉 some customers won’t value it

👉some won’t understand it

👉 some won’t believe they need it

👉 and some will just not like it

But that’s ok. Your brand isn’t meant to be for “everyone”.

The key is to focus instead on reaching your ideal customer who values your brand and all that it offers - these are your people. It’s as simple as that.

Finishing up the week with a design I created recently. I absolutely love flowers and my IG feed is constantly providing a cornucopia of floral inspiration so this project was right up my street. As a result I’ve decided one of my goals for 2024 is to work with more floral businesses. (So if you flowers are you game, come say hi!)

But back to the design, the aim was to create a modern feel with a strong contrasting colour palette. The typeface was custom finished to reflect elongated stems and the abstract movement found in modern floral arrangements.
