I did it! I won my local election! You can call me Cllr Jaysica from now on ☺️
My team did the most incredible job helping me deliver flyers, canvassing, and talking to people all over the ward. In the last three days of the election I did around 45000 steps!
Digital marketing has always been my thing and the work I did on our social media campaign was definitely successful. I had people saying they had seen the videos I produced and appreciated our team talking about local issues that affected them.
But nothing beats old school marketing: delivering leaflets, flyers, and good old fashioned word of mouth. Of course the social media helps us reach the people who aren’t home, but I was so pleased to have spoken to the people who helped me win by 50 votes during an incredibly divisive election. The hard work paid off!
Today I had my induction into the council, receiving my pass and laptop. After freelancing for two years it was strange going through an employment process again, albeit for an elected position!
The work ahead will be rigourous, the paperwork will be laborious, but the rewards will be marvellous.
I’m excited to start this journey, especially at this stage in my career. Plus, the work complements my freelance work as a social media consultant. In fact, I have three bookings delivering my Show Up & Shine workshop!
I am so grateful for the good fortune I am having now, after a lot of hard work!
