This is the first reveal of collaborative work between Alpha Duplication and ALBOM 45 where our aim is to explore creative packaging for the humble data disc. Including CD, DVD or Blu-ray formats these conceptual prototypes aim to push boundaries and test material science in specialist packaging for the standard 120mm disc we have all come to know. Don't get us wrong, we love traditional packaging, but sometimes, one just has to see if there is more that can be done for a product.
Whilst we see a considerable surge in the sales of all physical media formats, we really want to promote that special editions relying on additional digital content, or a different colour shell, or yet another effect variant may no longer excite the humble music collector if presented in the same skin and that perhaps some carefully executed, well thought out packaging could fill the void.
First up is this "Beauty", inspired by the tale of Beauty and the Beast and directly using a photograph of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Stained glass product, realised in miniature and inserted into a custom cut Digipack with some additional framing pieces applied to both sides of the front panels window.
The concept for this work started whilst reviewing avenues for polycarbonate discs and reading many an internet excerpt on how to make decorative touches to homes using CDs and acrylic paints. Products ranged from Mandala Art and Suncatchers to the inspirational Faux Lead-Lined Stained Glass Window Discs responsible for this concept. If your crafty, have a go and look at this for reference: https://katycraftideas.com/recycled-cd-mandala-suncatcher/
