Hoyland continues to grow and evolve, with new housing developments, businesses, and community initiatives helping to shape the town’s future. With more people choosing to live, work, and invest in

the area, Hoyland and its surrounding villages are becoming an increasingly vibrant place to call home. We share local news, events, updates, and important information from across Hoyland, Elsecar, Birdwell, Jump, Platts Common and the surrounding areas. From lost pets and road issues to business announcements, community appeals, and local success stories — our aim is to make sure residents always know what’s happening in their community. What started as a simple community page has grown into a much wider platform, reaching tens of thousands of people every week. Alongside our online presence, the MyHoyland Hub provides a physical community point where people can pop in, ask questions, share notices, advertise local services, or simply have a chat. MyHoyland is run by a small team of dedicated volunteers who give up their free time to keep the platform running. We work to broadcast local news, support charities, promote community events, and help local people connect with the services and information they need. Much of what we share comes directly from the community, so if you have a story, event, or issue you think people should know about, please do get in touch. We also offer affordable advertising opportunities for local businesses, helping them reach a large and engaged local audience. Income generated through advertising and promotions is reinvested back into the community, supporting local groups, initiatives, and charitable causes across Hoyland and the surrounding area. School Responds to Concerns Over Alleged Knife Incidents

Following concerns raised on social media regarding reports of knives allegedly being brought into school, MyHoyland contacted Kirk Balk Academy seeking clarification and reassurance for parents and the wider community.

In a statement provided to MyHoyland, the academy said it encourages parents and carers to contact the school directly if they have concerns, rather than relying solely on information shared on social media.

The school stated that while it cannot comment on individual cases, any incident involving prohibited items being brought onto school premises would be dealt with "quickly and safely," with permanent exclusion being a likely consequence.

Kirk Balk Academy also stressed that the safety and wellbeing of students remains its "absolute priority" and said it has robust procedures in place to ensure the school remains a safe environment for all pupils and staff.

The academy added that parents and carers with specific concerns are welcome to contact the school directly by telephone or email to discuss matters confidentially.

The statement comes after discussions and speculation online regarding alleged knife-related incidents involving pupils. Due to safeguarding and data protection requirements, schools are often unable to comment on individual cases or disciplinary matters.

MyHoyland understands that the academy takes any reports relating to prohibited items extremely seriously and has reassured the community that appropriate action will always be taken where necessary.

School Statement

"Should any instances occur of students bringing prohibited items into school, these will be dealt with quickly and safely, with permanent exclusion being a likely consequence."
