So here's a quick quiz...
If one of the first split tests you run is the classic - let's split test the CTA button colors - then you're either:-
a) a marketing G-D and nothing's going to stop you now...
b) burning money like your daddy owns a VC company and bought bitcoin at $3 each...
c) reading all the gooo-rooo course manuals but still not getting the results they promised in their photoshopped screenshots...
If you answered a) please just scroll down to the next post in your feed, there's simply nothing left to teach a marketing g-d like your very good self...
b) and c)'s you can stay and read on 👍
the mistake people make when they split test CTA buttons is that the amount of money/impressions/visitors required to get a reliable answer could be better spent testing much bolder, highly differentiated, elements.
Instead of testing the color of a button (even an important button) you could instead test:
👉 the type or style of your entire page
👉 the core offer or promise
👉 a heavily branded page vs the simple black text on a white background alternative.
If you're unsure if your current test elements fall into the bigger, bolder, braver category the simple test is to view your page on laptop or desktop screen, step back so you're 3-4feet away from the screen and now see if you can spot the split test differences.
If you can't see the changes from 3ft out your audience is unlikely to notice them either - nullifying much of the gains you could have been making if you tested a much more obvious element.
