Know a business owner who could use some marketing support? Send them my way; here's how I can help:

* Copywriting
* Journalism
* PR.

There are few things I haven't written about - and few industries I haven't written for.

Send them my way if they need a copywriter. I'm nice, I promise.

My way or the AI way? Where we’re going, we don’t need roadblocks to great content.Sure, AI can give you a steer, but a great West Yorkshire copywriter – hey, that’s me! – will really drive your message home. From copywriting to PR and even journalism, I can support you and your business wi...

Here are just three direct replies I received when I sent out my email newsletter last week...

'This made me smile'

'Loved your email'

'You ring that bell, loved the story'

Subject matter-wise, my newsletter is normally just a vehicle for me to bash AI (joke!) but yesterday I tried something different - a personal tale of woe/victory (whichever way you look at it).

Intrigued and want to read it too? Let me know and I'll send you it (you don't even need to be added to my mailing list, if you don't fancy it. No pressure here!).

Anyone looking for a French tutor for themselves - or their kids?

May I recommend my sister - and not just because she’s my sister?!

I’ve never been tutored by her but she has me as a sister, which must mean she is very patient. Joking aside, go and look at her reviews - she’s got some brilliant ones and she’s got all kinds of experience. She also once got stopped in the street, while living and working in Paris, by a canvasser, and when they found out she wasn’t actually French, they were shocked! That story has always stuck out to me; it goes to show how good her French accent must be.

Sarah offers tutoring in person, from her home in Lancaster, or online - and she tutors GCSE and A Level students, as well as older people (retirees or friends looking to learn together - she can teach you as a pair, if you prefer).

Get in touch, you won’t regret it. Even if you’re just going to France for a hol, you could pick up a phrase or two to use while you’re there.

Also, she’s the loveliest person (again, I would say that) but she is. Go, go, go!

Bonjour! As speaking exams are coming up, why not get in touch?

I have twenty+ years' experience at GCSE, A level and with adult learners.

Today’s a big birthday for my Dad. BIG!
So in honour of the man who gave me his daft sense of humour and instilled in me a huge love of music, here’s a piece I once wrote for the about him - and how he’s massively inspired me. Happy Birthday, Dad! 🎂 🥳

Like podcasts?

Towards the back end of last year, I agreed to be a guest on one. It was massively out of my comfort zone but I got through it - and the host emailed me a month or so ago to say it was the most listened to of the series 😮

If you’d like to have a listen, I talk all things copywriting over on Lewis Wride’s ‘Copy That’ show. I’ll pop a link in the comments…

Have a dog?
Know a dog?
Love a dog?
Or maybe even want a dog?

If so, you must check out Mark Mitchell Pets. I've helped Mark spruce up his site with some new content and it's been an absolute joy. Head over to his page, give it a ‘Like’ and have a browse around.

You'll love it if you can answer 'yes' (or even 'woof' - takes all sorts!) to any of the above.

Know a business owner who needs new content for their website in 2026?

Here's a recent website I've overhauled with fresh new copy...

Crowther & Shaw is a leading player in the refrigeration and air con space - and it was a pleasure to update their content while ensuring the site's new tone of voice reflects their good, honest Yorkshire principles.

The team at Leeds-based Our Agency updated the site's design and it's been received well too.

Have a peep: https://crowtherandshaw.co.uk/

Privately-owned and possessing good, honest family values, our Huddersfield-based company employs some of the country’s very best engineering talent.

I hate public speaking. The idea of it has always made me feel sick.

But a few weeks ago, I agreed to be a guest on a podcast - and it's now live (and quite public) over on Spotify.

A huge thank you to Lewis Wride for inviting me on the Alpha Quad podcast.

Lewis was a great interviewer and made me feel at ease immediately.

In the episode, we chat about:

✏️ My route into copywriting, via a stint spent writing a weekly music column at my local newspaper, then later for NME magazine

✏️ Some of the most memorable copywriting projects I’ve worked on, including for an ice cream brand. Yum

✏️ Remaining creative - and positive - in an AI-heavy world…
…and more.

I'll pop the link in the comments, if you fancy a listen.

Right, I’m off to treat myself to a slice of cake. Well, why not. Might even have two.

Have you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone lately? If so, how did it go?

Around a month or so ago, I said I'd publish a weekly 'throwback' post once a week, sharing a piece of work from my dusty old copywriting archives.

So far I've only shared two. Good intentions and all that.

Here's the third, then...

It's a couple of snippets of content from the Madiba site. Madiba provides care for young people with learning disabilities, neurodevelopment challenges, and complex needs - and it was a pleasure to work with them, alongside Alex at This is Hel agency.

You can find the Madiba site here: https://www.madiba.uk/

Thinking of joining the world of self-employment? Do it!

Before you know it, you’ll be 11 years in, wondering why you were ever wary of going it alone 🥳

It’s been a rocky road for us freelance copywriters lately (ahem, AI) but nevertheless we power on through.

I gave myself the morning off today but this afternoon I used a ‘Keeping in Touch’ day to get stuck into some proofreading and editing for a client, fresh pair of eyes and belly full of sponge cake. Swipe to have a peep - and yes, I’m scoffing both of them. Of course I am.

Cake: model’s own.

Today's 'Throwback Tuesday' is coming to you on a Wednesday - mainly because I now have two small children and I don't know whether I'm coming or I'm going.

So, here's something from my copywriting archives then...

Well, it's not so much from the archives, as this website - for fit-out company, Lodestone Projects - went live earlier this year.

Have a peep - all copy written by me: https://lodestone-projects.co.uk/

And here's a nice testimonial from Lodestone's Josh Donnelly...

'Throwback Tuesday'...yeah, I know that isn't a thing. But my page has been sorely neglected of late - and I just stumbled across this piece I wrote for the now sadly folded* US-based company, Poe & Company Limited, and thought I'd share it.

Poe & Co made English-style flat caps, which are hugely popular in America since Peaky Blinders first aired.

The article explores the history of flat caps and features me, err...wearing a Baker Boy cap and not a flat cap. Hey ho. It also features my husband who would probably look good in any old hat. Ssh, don't tell him I said that.

I think I'll make this a regular thing on a Tuesday - sharing a 'throwback' article I've written or an ad concept I've created.

Like this piece? Hated it? Or just learned something you didn't know about flat caps? Let me know below...

* Seriously, I was absolutely gutted to read this. Founder Christopher Poe and his wife Christina are great people who I still hope to meet in person one day.
