So I realised I've been quiet on here for a few months, I've been a little busy to say the least! 😅

As some of you know, back in June I married Alice, my best friend and soulmate! We had an absolutely incredible weekend surrounded by friends and family. For the first time in quite a few years, we then took a well-deserved holiday in the south of France!

After a wonderful 4 weeks away, I've been busy delivering new websites, creating effective marketing strategies, onboarding new clients, delivering training and helping businesses grow!

As the winter approaches and the economic situation looming, I can see first hand the need for cost effective, powerful and effective marketing for businesses large and small.

I want to empower more businesses in the future so expect more and more content from me!

Social can open up so many different opportunities for businesses, especially in 2021.

In a world that was thrust into digital only platforms in 2020, companies have had to improve their digital shopfronts, channels and platforms.

Posting on social lets your customers know you're active, open and builds the relationship we spoke about a few weeks ago.

Social media is great for having conversations, gathering information and engaging with your customers, employees and stakeholders too.

Aiming for 3-5 posts a week is common for most businesses and plenty post more than that too.

To write a great email you need to fully understand your customers and have a clear objective for that email.

Knowing what language to use, what time of day to send and what sort of content your audience will engage with the most will really give you the best start when writing an email, whether its personal or a mass email to your customers.

I find simplicity is best, be direct and to the point but also conversational and light. The amount of emails that people get nowadays you need to grab their attention and hold it enough for people to understand what you want them to do.

Having a clear objective will make sure your customer understands the point of that email. Spell it out but not in a patronising way.

Also, a bit of humour in there goes a long way too. Not that I was very good at that in the first place...

SEO stands for search engine optimisation and it essentially means improving your website's position on search engines such as google or bing (if anyone uses that anymore? 🧐).

As you produce content on your website Google will look at it analyse it and rank it on how useful it thinks it is to users.

So if you write a great article on social media marketing, which is really useful, has a lot of links, that people link to and share then you might be towards the top of google if people search for social media marketing.

There are a LOAD of techniques on how to improve your ranking but there are also some basic improvements that make BIG differences too.

I’ve been talking to clients about how important sharing who you are on LinkedIn is for creating a brand, then realised I haven’t done as much myself recently!

I am Harry Smith, a marketing consultant based in lovely Ilkley, Yorkshire. Alongside getting my degree in Marketing, my experience lies in digital marketing and social media but I love digital analytics and automation (and as my clients will tell you, I can get REALLY into analytics 🤣). Your brand is how your customer feels when they buy your product or the conversation you have when you're catching up after a busy week.
