Yesterday's Instagram update from the CEO, Adam Mosseri
It's official now, you can only use 5 hashtags per post.
The main role of the hashtags has always been indexing your post in the right industry so the right people can see it.
But IG has developed a lot in the past years, and it's now used as a search engine just like Google/Tik Tok/Pinterest and it will find the right content for you.
What does that mean for you business though?
That it's more important than ever to write your content using the words your ideal clients are using to search for what they need.
The new algorithm, Andromeda, literally scans the user's activity and based on what they watch and how they word their questions so it knows what content to show them based on where they are on their buying journey.
So creating content for the different stages of their journey has become even more important than it previously was, because now the algorithm is by your side, pouring the right eyes to your content š¤
Think of it this way, when you find a new product you may be interested in, I'll use speciality coffee as an example, you may Google something like
'how to find the best speciality coffee for my espresso machine' or
'is speciality coffee better than supermarket coffee?'
These questions are asked in different stages of the buying journey:
the first one is actively looking for the product
while the second one just discovered that speciality coffee can be a potential solution to their problem
š”Top tip: map out your buyer's journey and the questions they are asking so you can serve your audience at each stage
This is exactly the lens I use when building content systems for myself and clients to cover all the bases.
Curious, which stage do you think most of your content is serving right now?š
