🏉💜 The future of girls rugby on the Isle of Wight is looking bright.

It's fantastic to see clubs investing in opportunities for young girls to get involved in sport, build confidence, make friends and learn from positive role models.

Having players like Bo giving their time to inspire the next generation is exactly what grassroots sport is all about. Every girl deserves the chance to try something new, challenge themselves and discover what they're capable of.

Whether they go on to play rugby for years or simply gain confidence and friendships along the way, initiatives like this can make a real difference.

If you have a daughter, niece, granddaughter or know a young girl looking for a new challenge, why not encourage them to give it a go? 💜💙

Please help spread the word and support the growth of girls rugby across the Island.

One of the biggest mistakes I see local businesses make is trying to market themselves like national brands.

The truth is, what works in London won't always work in Newport.

What works for a chain business won't always work for an independent business.

And what works for someone with 100,000 followers won't necessarily work for a local business trying to attract customers within a few miles of their front door.

The Isle of Wight is unique.

People buy from people.

They support businesses they recognise.

They trust recommendations.

They like seeing familiar faces, local stories and genuine community involvement.

That's why I believe local businesses need local strategies.

Not every trend needs following.

Not every viral video needs recreating.

Not every piece of marketing advice applies to your audience.

The businesses that consistently do well online are often the ones who understand their customers the best.

They know what matters to them.

They know what problems they're trying to solve.

And they create content that speaks directly to those people.

Before asking how to get more reach, ask yourself this:

Does my content actually connect with the people I want to attract?

Because connection will always outperform chasing trends.

Especially on an island where reputation, relationships and trust still matter.

What do you think?

Do Island businesses need a different approach to marketing than mainland businesses?

One of my best performing posts recently wasn't the most polished.

It wasn't the most complicated.

It didn't use a trending audio.

It didn't contain a groundbreaking marketing secret.

It simply spoke about something people were already thinking.

That's something I think many businesses overlook.

People don't engage with content because it's perfect.

They engage because it resonates.

The post performed well because it had:

• a clear opinion
• a relatable topic
• a simple message
• an emotional connection

No tricks.

No hacks.

No chasing the algorithm.

Just content that made people stop and think.

Too many businesses focus on creating content that looks impressive.

The real goal should be creating content that feels relevant.

Because your audience won't remember your fonts.

They won't remember your colours.

They won't remember how long it took to design.

They'll remember how it made them feel.

As we head into a new week, ask yourself this:

Are you creating content to impress people?

Or are you creating content to connect with them?

The second one is where the magic happens.

Behind every small business is a person carrying far more than most people ever see.

The early mornings.

The late nights.

The invoices.

The uncertainty.

The pressure of making sure there is enough work coming in next month.

The responsibility of supporting a family.

The moments where you question whether you're doing enough.

Social media often shows the highlights.

The wins.

The bookings.

The exciting announcements.

What it doesn't always show are the days where you're tired, overwhelmed and still showing up because giving up simply isn't an option.

Running a business isn't easy right now.

Costs are rising.

Competition is growing.

Customers have more choice than ever.

Yet every day, thousands of business owners continue to open their doors, answer enquiries, serve customers and keep pushing forward.

If you're one of them, take a moment to recognise how much you've already achieved.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You just have to keep moving forward.

One day, one customer and one step at a time.

To every business owner reading this, keep going. People are noticing more than you think.

One of the biggest mistakes I see businesses making is assuming that views automatically mean success.

They don't.

You can have thousands of views, hundreds of likes and still not receive a single enquiry.

Why?

Because attracting attention and attracting customers are two very different things.

If your content is attracting the wrong audience, you're essentially speaking to a room full of people who were never going to buy from you in the first place.

Here are 5 warning signs:

1. You're getting views but no enquiries.

People are seeing your content, but they're not taking action. This usually means your messaging isn't connecting with the people who actually need your service.

2. People engage, but they're not your ideal customers.

Lots of likes can feel great, but if those people aren't local, aren't buyers or aren't your target audience, the engagement means very little.

3. Your insights don't match your goals.

If you're trying to attract local business owners but your audience is mostly outside your area or outside your target demographic, there's a disconnect somewhere.

4. You're creating content because everyone else is.

Trends can be useful, but blindly following what other people are doing often attracts their audience, not yours.

5. Your content has no clear direction.

When every post talks about something different, your audience struggles to understand what you do, who you help and why they should choose you.

The truth is, most businesses don't need more content.

They need better content.

Content built around audience behaviour.

Content built around strategy.

Content built around understanding what actually drives enquiries and conversions.

Your insights tell a story.

The question is, are you listening to it?

Most businesses are showing up online consistently and still wondering why nothing is changing.

No enquiries.
No conversations.
No real growth.

Because visibility alone doesn’t automatically create conversions.

Your content can be reaching people and still completely miss the mark if it isn’t speaking to the right audience in the right way.

That’s why I focus heavily on insights before content.

Who is actually engaging?
Where are they based?
What age range is responding?
What content are they saving?
What are they ignoring?

Because strategy starts with understanding behaviour.

The businesses seeing the best results right now aren’t always the ones posting the most.

They’re the ones creating intentional content built around real audience psychology and analytics.

Posting consistently matters.
But posting with direction matters more.

Most businesses think they have a posting problem.

So they post more.

More graphics.
More reels.
More trends.
More hashtags.
More noise.

But if your content is getting views and still not bringing enquiries, conversations or bookings then the problem usually isn’t consistency.

It’s direction.

I see so many businesses putting huge amounts of effort into social media while completely ignoring the one thing that actually matters:

Who are you trying to reach and what are they responding to?

Because content without strategy is just content.

Your insights already tell you:
• what people engage with
• what people ignore
• what content gets attention
• what content actually converts

Most businesses don’t need to go viral.

They need:
• clearer messaging
• stronger positioning
• content that connects
• strategy built around real audience behaviour

This is why I focus heavily on analytics, audience psychology and conversion strategy rather than just making things “look nice”.

Pretty posts mean nothing if they don’t move people.

Stop posting randomly.
Start posting with intention.

Everyone’s rushing to use AI right now.
And while it can absolutely be useful, social media is slowly becoming flooded with content that all feels exactly the same.

You can spot it instantly.

The captions feel emotionless.
The graphics look polished but generic.
The personality disappears.

The biggest mistake businesses are making right now is thinking social media is ONLY about posting content. It isn’t. It’s about connection, community, trust and understanding people.

AI can help with ideas.
It can help speed things up.
But it can’t replace human creativity, real experiences, personality, strategy or emotion.

The brands standing out in 2026 won’t be the ones posting the most AI content.
They’ll be the ones that still feel authentic in a world becoming increasingly artificial.

People still buy from people.

What’s your opinion on AI in social media and design? 👀

There’s something really powerful about seeing someone open up this honestly. ❤️

I think what Tian and Grace are building at The Wheatsheaf is genuinely special. Not just a pub, but a place where people can feel safe, accepted and understood for exactly who they are.

Posts like this will help more people than they probably realise. Massive respect to Tian for speaking so openly about his journey with ASD, FND & NEAD and helping raise awareness in such a real and honest way. 👏

The Isle of Wight needs more conversations like this.

🤍 A Personal Post From Tian 🤍

At The Wheatsheaf we’ve always wanted to create more than just a pub. We want this to be a place where people feel comfortable, welcomed and accepted for exactly who they are.

This post from Tian is incredibly personal and important to share. We hope by opening up, it helps others feel seen too.

"Some people may already be aware or quite frankly always none lol 😆.

I have gone through my whole life knowing I was different, but I have over my nearly 37 years perfected the art of masking 😷 and quite frankly I'm a pro at it.

That said even in my current role as a pub landlord it's exhausting. Since my Functional neurological Disorder and Non epileptic attack Disorder diagnosis dealing with my autism symptoms became totally overwhelming.

This pushed me to finally take the steps to get a diagnosis. 2 years later I was diagnosed with Autistic spectrum disorder.

This was obviously not a surprise to me but the validation of this is why you are how you are was reassuring.

This also ment by addressing my own struggles I could better help my daughter Aubree who is also on the spectrum.

To cut a long story short this isn't a poor me because I've lived and thrived as me no matter the label.

But what I do want to do is support others around me young or old any where they are placed on the spectrum as lets be honest it's vast.

That being said I'd like to invite any neurodivergant's and family or supporters to an evening at the Wheatsheaf Hotel Newport where all ages are welcome to a safe place with like minded people.

Keep your eyes peeled for lots more from me soon to raise awareness and support for ASD, FND & NEAD"
