I previously photographed Catherine around 18 months ago, and recently saw her again at her home to capture some updated shots. She’d recently cut her hair (quite a bit shorter) and wanted her photos to reflect that. Which makes sense - you’d want your brand photos to be a true visual representation of yourself, right?

Anyway, turned out she has lots of great little areas in her home & we ended up with a great mix of portraits for her. 😊

If you’ve changed your hair / style or have done anything else that means you look quite different from your existing brand photos, a new brand shoot is a great way to get some photos that’s more representative of how you look now.

A good headshot or portrait usually ticks these boxes:

Good light
Good backdrop
Good composition
Friendly expression

But sometimes a photo has all of the above and still feels sort of…flat. Like something’s missing?

I think what’s often missing is the connection. The way the photographer talks to the subject, how they make someone feel relaxed enough to be themselves in front of a camera. It’s like you can almost see it in someone’s eyes if they trust the person taking the photos.

I follow a lot of other photographers, and the ones I keep coming back to aren’t always the most technically perfect ones, but the ones where I can feel the connection in the photo.

And isn’t that what you want from a photo, to feel something when you look at it? 🤷🏼‍♀️

The Strategic Brand Shoot guide is live! 🤩

In here, I share my tips on how to plan for your shoot, what people might not think about, how to get months of content out of one shoot and how to feel comfortable whilst being photographed.

I’m so excited to share this guide - I hope you find it useful! 😍 Free download, link in bio 🙌🏼

A brand shoot shouldn’t just leave you with a new headshot. Yes, you need portraits, but you also want images that show what you do, how you work, who you work with and some of the details that make your business yours.

And if you’re going to invest time and money in a shoot, it’s worth thinking about what you’ll actually use the images for afterwards. Your website, linkedIn, social media, proposals, press… The more intentionally you plan, the more useful your images become (and the less likely you are to end up keep using the same photos).

I’m currently putting together The Strategic Brand Shoot Guide - a practical guide to planning a shoot that gives you much more than a gallery of nice photos. Stay tuned… 😉

In the meantime, if you’re planning a brand shoot, save this for when you start putting your shot list together!

Just before going on holidays, I had a personal brand shoot with Tal, an entrepreneur about to launch a private longevity and performance advisory service.

He wanted the overall look to be premium, discreet and trustworthy. He was after an indoor, elegant and classy setting combined with outdoor shots in a refined urban setting with elegant architecture and beautiful streets.

After some speedy research and looking around for options in central London, we landed on the library room in Dorset Square hotel (Firmdale Hotels) which was a great fit for the brief. The fact it’s located in lovely Marylebone meant the outdoor setting worked perfectly too.

Despite a very short timeframe from brief to shoot (3 days) we managed to create something that fit the bill and that Tal was really happy with! ✨

Three and a half weeks away - the longest I’ve been away in years and although we had a great time it’s nice to be back in the UK. (I’m still struggling to say ‘home’ - I feel torn between Sweden and UK as ‘home’ even after nearly 20 years here - maybe they both can be? 🤷🏼‍♀️) Back to our own stuff, own food, own beds, own routines. The stuff you start missing after a while when you’re away. 😉 Back to working after nearly a month off - starting with a wedding tonight ✨

Next trip will be a work trip in late September, to south France. Which I’m really, really excited about 😍

It’s a slower pace out here on the Swedish country side - no noise; just the sound of the wind blowing in the trees, the crickets, a woodpecker pecking the tree outside the garden house I’m staying in. It’s peaceful but it takes time to properly wind down.

Growling up here, I loved it when little, but was quite bored as a teen - I’m glad my kids still love coming out here (perhaps the contrast to London makes it even more appealing) and hopefully they will for a while longer.

It’s a beautiful place and I’m thankful I still get to come here every summer, spending time with my parents, sisters & nieces (and hopefully a bit more often - I’d love to spend time here in the other seasons).

We’ll be here a while longer, taking the days as they come ❤️
