Trimming is integral to equine welfare.
In the UK a farriery apprentice trains for 4 years, studying all aspects of hoofcare including caring for the unshod foot.
As part of their final exams, farriery apprentices need to demonstrate both practical skill, knowledge and behaviours trimming the equine foot.
Your farrier will be able to advise whether your horse or pony needs to be shod – the answer will depend on the individual equine and will include factors such as work, environment, management and current hoof health.

Just wanted to say thank you to all my lovely clients for your continued support and loyalty while I am on maternity leave, much love to you all 🤗

Here’s a bit about my partner Ben who i am lucky enough to have covering for me.

Ben has been shoeing many years and in many different countries around the world. After passing his higher farrier qualification to become an Associate of the Worshipful Company of Farriers, he has dedicated much of his career to specialising in remedial shoeing. His depth of knowledge and ability is a real asset to Clavin Farriery Services.

‼ Do clean your horse’s feet and legs prior to your farrier appointment – you wouldn’t go to the dentist after eating a Mars bar having not cleaned your teeth!
Beyond your farrier getting dirty and increasing the risk of accidents through slippy/muddy chaps, farriers use rasps to level, balance and finish the foot – rasps clog particularly easily preventing your farrier from doing the best job they can.
