GET THE HELL OUT OF THE OFFICE!
Let’s be honest, genuine inspiration almost never strikes while you’re slouched over a desk, sipping an earl grey or reading your fourth "as per my previous email" of the morning, and contemplating your life choices.
The proper ideas only show up when you get out into the real world. And if you’re looking to blow away a heavy case of creative burnout, nothing resets the brain quite like abandoning your sensible family hatchback and squeezing yourself into the cockpit of a Ferrari & Lamborghini.
My son Noah and I got to drive our absolute dream lineup, flinging Ferraris and Lambos around Brands Hatch. Trying to look like naturally gifted racing driver in front of your son while silently praying you don’t stall it in front of the marshals is a remarkably quick way to clear your noggin. (For the record, I did not look like Lewis Hamilton. I looked like a man having a mild mid-life crisis.)
Just as we were feeling quite pleased with our "skills", the pro driver took us out for the demo lap in what looked like a standard BMW Hatchback. Watching someone who actually knows what they’re doing hurl us and the car around Paddock Hill Bend at physics-defying speeds left us both white-knuckled, mildly traumatised, and laughing like absolute idiots.
It was a proper shot in the arm. It’s given us endless to chat about over the dinner table ever since plus spending time with my son who grows in experience and confidence every day. But more than that, it completely un-fried my brain(by scrambling it).
Although I genuinely felt like a proper racing driver out on the tarmac, I very quickly found my limits. The moment we handed over the keys to the pro driver, not only did the speed increase DRAMATICALLY!!, but so did the sheer excitement and enjoyment.
And honestly? It’s the exact same for anything in life.
Free templates are fine if your grand ambition is to potter around in the slow lane and blend into the beige background noise of the internet. But if you actually want to make an impact, you hire a professional. You sit back, hang on for dear life, and enjoy the ride—because it’s the high-octane, expert-driven stuff you’ll remember forever (and that actually gets results).
So, next time you're staring blankly at a screen wanting to put your head through the monitor:
Step away from the lure of the templates
Put the kettle on (or better yet, head to the pub).
Go do something memorable—preferably something involving a ridiculous engine, or at least a decent laugh with your lad.
Get out there, make some memories, grab a pint. Or, better yet, hand the wheel over to a pro designer and let them do the heavy lifting while you enjoy the ride. Your brand—and your remaining sanity—will thank you for it.
How do you cure the dreaded creative brain-fog? Are you a "stare at the wall until an idea appears" person, or do you have to go out and do something completely mental? Let me know for the future! 👇
