New on the blog is Millie’s monthly digitisation team update! From historic company magazines to military photography, June was another busy month in the digitisation studio.

Over the past few weeks, we've been working on a range of fascinating projects, including collections from The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Boots, The Fusilier Museum and Unilever.

One highlight was beginning our work with Boots, digitising editions of Beacon - the company's in-house magazine from the 1960s. Packed with company news, photography and product features, these publications offer a unique snapshot of how Boots communicated with its employees and shareholders during a transformative period in its history.

We've also continued digitising remarkable material for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, from stunning photographic prints to historic negatives that capture decades of unforgettable performances at Edinburgh Castle.

Alongside these projects, we've welcomed a new Guardian large-format scanner to the studio, helping us work even more efficiently with larger bound volumes and oversized archive material.

There's plenty more to come in July, with new projects from the Museum of Scottish Railways, Historic Houses Foundation and more.

TownsWeb Digitisation Technician Millie Coleman shares what she and the team have been working on during the month of June 2026.

The membership records reveal powerful connections to the suffragette movement and the women who shaped social change.

Among them was Christabel Pankhurst, who joined the Library in 1915 while living in exile in Paris. Her correspondence, written on Women’s Social and Political Union letterhead, highlights how access to books, knowledge, and research remained important even while she was unable to return home.

The records also reveal wider networks among members - showing who nominated whom, how relationships formed, and how these connections shaped the intellectual and political communities of the time.

We had the pleasure of attending the CBCE (Cremation & Burial Communication & Education) 2026 Conference, held at the Hilton Southampton – Utilita Bowl.

A wonderful event bringing together professionals from across the bereavement sector for three days of discussion, learning, networking and collaboration. With a packed programme covering everything from funeral practices, crematoria design and regulation updates to AI in deathcare and public communication, the event offered a valuable insight into the current priorities and future direction of the sector.

For us, CBCE was not just about discussing TownsWeb Archiving’s digitisation services, or our access and discovery platform PastView, but more specifically PastView Chronicle — our purpose-built platform for the bereavement sector, designed to help cemeteries, crematoria and bereavement services save time, reduce costs, improve access to their registers, maps and records, and also make the most of monetisation with a range of revenue generating opportunities.
